Starting point: at the end of Rateče village (viewed towards the border crossing from SLO to ITA), at the smaller guesthouse "Šurc" onto the side road (same side as the guesthouse), which starts climbing the hill, while the main road through the village leads to Petrol gas station (by then you're already too far). The path follows the main road, which is entirely gravel and not demanding orientation-wise, at all intersections there are distinct and clear wooden signs or markers for Tromeja. First the main path splits to Planinski dom Tromeja, continue left, second time a bit higher at the junction roads to Tromeja left and to Podkoren and Kr.Gora right. After about an hour and a half (depending on your fitness) at the end of the forest you already spot meadows and cable cars of the Austrian ski resort, from there the gradient eases a bit too. Left at the end of ski slopes is Peč (1509 m) i.e. Tromeja where RTV transmitter stands, right is the upper station of Austrian cableway, during weekdays nothing open at the top unfortunately, don't know about summer season though.
On the way back it's worth taking the above mentioned turnoff to Podkoren, which brings you down a nice forest road in gentle descent to the main road Koren.sedlo - Podkoren, from there not far to starting point and Rateče anymore.
As for road quality, OK, withstood winter and spring rains well, except some streams and wetness spilling over the path no other issues, but on bike good to have wide tires with some tread on them.
