Very nice photos! A fox this high, I wouldn't have thought it possible to meet one like this. This end really needs to be seen "live" sometime.

That fox was around 1600 m, I've seen them in Slovenia even higher too.

Rauchkofel above Wolayersee is a touring ski jewel, worth a visit every year. Up the Gail Valley to K-M, then up under Plöckenpass. Otherwise, our nice morning was soon spoiled by the closed and locked gate to the lower Valentin Alm. No choice but skis on the backpack along the road and some on the trail to the Alm, then onwards to the upper Valentin Alm. After less than 45 minutes we could unload our shoulders and put on skis. Snow to the upper Alm is not plentiful but doable. From the Alm onwards there is more than enough snow, it was even frozen. Under the impressive walls of Chianevata and Cogliansa we quickly reached the Valentin gates, eyed the Jezerski boss (Capolago) where we still have a debt, and went through the pass to the wide SW slopes of Rauchkofel. The snow had just started to soften, but we weren't in any hurry and sat up there for almost an hour enjoying the beautiful views and sunshine. Skiing was pure poetry on 1-2 cm softened snow that held beautifully all the way to the upper Valentin Alm; lower down the snow was somewhat softer, we hunted snow tongues mostly on soft avalanche debris and slid a bit below the lower Alm. Then another good 20 minutes to the car, a bit more to the yellow refreshment. Rauchkofel is also accessible from Collina or the Tolazzi hut, but that's more of a hiking tour, of course also from the Lešanska valley past the Pichl hut.

I went again this winter to this nice Valentin valley. How better to spend a holiday day than on skis, and the weather served us, much better on the "competitive part", somewhat less later on the social part. Also at the 41st Valentingletscherlauf there was international participation, some 400, maybe more of us gathered from Austria, Italy and Slovenia. With GRS stations Kamnik, Radovljica, Bohinj, Mojstrana, Koroška and Bovec, I hope I didn't miss anyone. Start at the lower Valentin Alm, then some time on dry ground, from the upper Alm on skis under the mighty walls of Colline, Chianevate and Cogliansa to the Valentin gates. The weather served us, the snow was just right for enjoyable skiing, meetings with friends are always pleasant. Results, where the best approximations to the average time are measured, are not the primary goal, but still we can boast that the GRS Bovec team among 35 trios in the mountain rescuers category took 6th place.

From Rifugio Tolazzi hut via path 144 up to Volaia pass past Lambertenghi-Romanin hut to hut at Wolayersee. From there on grassy slope not too steep rising to distant visible Rauchkofel summit. Path pleasant accompanied by marmots and grazing cows. Reached top in 1.5 hrs but on top weather soon worsened. View to Hohe Warte occasionally worse. Returned different path to Valentinthörl. From there down to lake. Next day planned Hohe Warte but bad forecast crossed plans.

Very thoughtfully and with experience you gave up on the summit. With the first layer of snow on the grass, which on top is even thicker and thus heavier, there's really nothing to seek on steep slopes. Nice neighboring tour .

We were last in Timau mid-October, so in Laipac we surprisingly turned onto the bypass road, as the main road to Plockenpass was washed away. The raging of natural forces is visible further; the road to lower alpine pasture Valentin looks more like a forest path after timber harvest, at the hut devastation peaks. Well, snow starts soon; about 15min above the hut and morning walking is quite enjoyable, higher up in the valley snow in shade is not so settled, and there's some new and wind-packed. At the saddle we admire the view towards the lake and Capolaga peak, for better view on Coglians ridge need to go sideways into gully and up the nicely snow-covered slopes. Bare is only few meters steep grass and scree around the cross, all else still nicely covered. Descent in heavily settled snow under saddle and especially towards end was a bit tricky but what of it-weather and landscape as it should be, hut and beer almost within reach

From alpine pasture Untere Valentinalm along marked path to saddle Valentin Törl. Then right up the gully to extensive grassy plateau. From there to the ridge and right to the summit. Descent to Wolayer hut, walk around the lake and back to Valentin Törl. Then long descent to valley. Path without peculiarities, only Obere Valentinalm pasture is empty.
