Ridge: Strevčev vrh above Sv. Duh - Pavličevo sedlo

Also this Sunday I went from Pavličevo sedlo to Veliki and Mali peak. I stuck to forest cart tracks and drags near the border, from the junction at the foot of Veliki peak (hunting feeder) I climbed the steep drag, at the next junction went left and up the steep clearing to Veliki peak. Towards the saddle between both peaks I pushed through windthrow remnants under the ridge, easier would be to descend the same way and continue on cart track to the saddle which leads right there. From there to Mali peak less than ten minutes walk, two paths lead there, gentler right through forest, along ridge a bit more "toothy" shortcut. At the summit sunny and pleasantly warm, occasional wind didn't disturb waiting for ever better views of Savinja Alps, which cleared up nicely on my return Returned to saddle and back to start on cart track. (Southern) snow was negligible, no winter gear needed, much of the path dry - including final ascents to both peaks. Short walk, beautiful views from summit – in good conditions even Krn visible.

Did you see bear tracks too ? You mentioned game traces.

I meant chamois (or roe deer) traces, didn't take time for others.. Bears are classified as predators not game.

From Pavličevo sedlo along border path, drags and under the peak, pathless to Sadovnikov peak. Continuing along border clearing in area of border stones over all peaks to Sv. Duha saddle and descent to road at Sv. Duh. Passage with some sense of orientation without special features, except numerous windthrown trees. With some effort to clear this wood, it could be a really nice hiking tour.

Trip to Covnik (Mali) peak on the western part of the ridge between Pavličevo sedlo and Olševa is attractive in all seasons, as it's a short path (about 1 hour ascent and 40 min descent - with 300m elevation gain), easy orientation, difficulty only slightly at ridge ascent/descent from the peak to saddle between it and Sadovnik (Veliki) peak. The peak is nicely scenic due to larger clearing on and below it, despite relatively low elevation almost three quarters of all two-thousanders of Kamnik-Savinja Alps visible. Just before border crossing turn right onto trail, follow a few minutes, soon after border stone XXII-162 turn from it to less visible trail right, which soon gets "normal" appearance. Left trail leads to Rigelski peak, overgrown with tall grass in summer/autumn and further passage not clearest, avoid that terrain in forest on east side and look for trail or border clearing along border stones for continuation. Later at larger junction of trails and cart tracks, at game feeder, continue slightly right uphill on steepest trail crossing south slopes of Sadovnik peak. Leave trail at saddle (it starts descending right there) between it and Covnik peak, from where two options to the latter's summit – more direct ridge path along border stones (more rugged/rocky) or less demanding, traversing ascending path through forest turning right soon after start of mentioned border ridge. Both options about 10 min to summit. In last few weeks went there several times, last on Sunday and yesterday – photos taken then, sequence tied to ascent/descent location not day. No special features on path.

This Sunday again more snow than last time, as if winter is announcing itself soon - on Friday and Saturday it fell 5 to 15 cm. With the old, mostly unprocessed snow, the sinking was of course deeper. Animal tracks weren't many either, but up to the "junction" where the last branch of the logging trail to Sadovnikov vrh is, I followed a few days old ski touring tracks. Not entirely sure if it was one or two tourers. From the feeding spot to the saddle between Sadovnikov and Covnikov vrh sinking up to knees, in the final ascent to the latter through dense forest there was hardly any snow… Cloudiness and later fog accompanied me the whole way, after fifteen minutes on the summit I finally got enlightenment Really beautiful views, but the day was slowly coming to an end, and they scheduled the football final at an abnormal time.. From winter gear I used only gaiters, of course snowshoes wouldn't be out of place at all…
