Given that Tadej and Rok have "cleaned up" the forum and it's serving its purpose again (thanks to both), after a long time I'm posting a nice tour from Martuljek. We did it with Dejan (kitta) on Friday. The weather was gorgeous, the tour a real balm for my old bones. We approached from Lake Jasna, over Kurji vrh and back the same way. Approach and descent are equipped to zero. The lower hunter's path to Kurji vrh is a nice forest walk. At least most of the path.
Descent into the notch before the only more difficult section.1
But first some nice scrambling. Photo: D. G.2
The rope leads them up there to the sun. Photo: D. G.3
View from below the summit of Rigljica towards Rušica, Špik, Frdamanim...4
The summit register is completely destroyed.5
And the box torn off the post.6
Ascent to Rušica.7
The view is magnificent. Towards Jasna and Kranjska Gora.8
Descent from Rušica.9
We also treated ourselves to rappels since it is so nicely equipped.10
But some other time.11

Did you have a 30 or 60 meter rope?

Dprapr, are the fallen spruces on the approach still scattered like mikado or can you go over, around and through them without excessive gymnastics?

Thanks.
There at the traverse from the ledge (is there a PP junction there?) there are a couple of fallen trees, but it's already nicely trodden around. It wasn't there in July. Otherwise the path is really enjoyable compared to the one on Rutarski vršič.

I'm not sure if we're thinking of the same spot, where quite some acrobatics were needed.
Why do you think the path to Rutarski Vršič is less enjoyable? To me it was super scenic, on the descent towards Za Akom it's easier to bypass the fallen trees than at that spot I have in mind on the path towards Kurji vrh (sadly I didn't take any photos).

Spruces thrown around like mikado, you probably mean the approach from the Gozd Martuljek side?

While scrambling over that fallen mess last year my helmet came off my backpack and more acrobatics followed to get it back. Not exactly a fun experience, but a good lesson, since then the helmet is only outside if it's on the head.

Oh, thanks n3jc. I read the post very quickly and missed that dprapr and kitta approached from Jasna.

Sorry, dprapr zadrega, n3jc clarified that we're talking about different approaches.

Since that blowdown happened last year, I prefer to go straight over Črni vrh...mežikanje

I found some interesting local reading for those who have 5 minutes. I'd be interested in your opinions on this? To me it seems somehow logical that there was a name swap, but it can be debated about that for ages.

Rigljica or Rušica?

There will be more people in a dilemma about Prisank or Prisojnik than about Rigljica or Rušica, where not many go.
I'm sure the alpinists won't swap Rušica with Rigljica. nasmeh

A bit more of a written tour description, which Nejc has already presented in pictures.
We drove by car to the end of the path above Jasna, that is to 960 m asl. There we stepped onto a comfortable, nicely traceable trail towards Kurji vrh. Since it winds through coniferous forest most of the time, the trail is quite soft, which comes in handy on descent. The first half is steeper, then it flattens a bit, the last 150 m of elevation steeper again. After two hours and 800 m gain we were at Kurji vrh. Not a particularly fast pace, but okay for me.
After a 15-minute break we continued through scrub a bit down and more up to Rušica, which we reached in one hour. After a short descent we reached the climbing part of the tour.
From the first gully we climbed up the slope with easy scrambling. A bit higher we entered a system of steep gullies of second difficulty grade. We alternated between climbing the gully or the ridge between them.
We descended into the second gully by rope; on the way back we saw that the gully can be easily traversed leftward slightly upward. From the gully a 20-meter shallow chimney of third difficulty grade led up. It seemed a bit harder to me. Nejc climbed it and then belayed Leja and me from above. The continuation was also quite demanding, and since we had the rope already stretched, we belayed the next pitch too. Soon after that we reached the subpeak of Rigljica (pic 12). Nejc named this peak Rušica; on the map it is 1913 m high, the peak where Leja and I are standing is over 2040 m. I know there is quite some confusion around the names Rušica and Rigljica. From the subpeak to the summit was another half hour of nice scrambling, and at 12:30 we were on Rigljica.
At the summit we met Sebastian and his girlfriend, who had started from the car one hour before us. They had descended further to the saddle with Vrh nad Rudo but decided not to continue. We also considered continuing to Vrh nad Rudo and Frdamane police, and descent via Kačji graben, but decided to repeat the tour next year on a longer day, with shorter breaks and fewer ropes.
At 1:10 we started descending and arrived at the car at 5 pm. Then there was swimming at Jasna, beer at Aljaž, and dinner at Gorenjc.
