Road to Kofce, Šija. Tegošče and also Dolgi Njivi

Indeed a lot has already been done but nature arranges things its own way where it can. But yesterday's trip to Pungrat doesn't give me peace. After asking who and what takes care of the roads, I got the answer that it's the Tržič municipality. Before that I was also at Dolge Njive, there after the first thunderstorm in my opinion the road will be interrupted for a nice while. Back to Kofce and Pungrat, Tegošče, Šijije interesting that there weren't few of us with cars as the huts are very well arranged, offer and great friendliness of staff are a magnet. And now, everything is fine they'd say. Really not, the road is in some parts desperate and dangerous. In my opinion with joint cooperation of the municipality and farm owners some of these critical points could be fixed. On the other hand why with car. It's like this, the road is and isn't mine someone is responsible for it. If it can't be, close it. The most important is that not all of us are healthy and capable but at least enable some the wish to go to really beautiful pastures, I won't claim the most beautiful, but among the most beautiful. I think any debate is good and the situation will soon be satisfactory. Good luck to all there and back. Thanks to all for hospitality.

This info came in handy. I planned Košutnik from Dolge Njive, I'm a bit older, so every meter/km counts, especially since it leaves more time for views, photos and enjoying nature. P.S. brand new car .....

What do you want a highway to the mountains??? On 15.8.2012 there were at least 200 cars parked under Dolga Njiva!!! And then on the pasture such a commotion that it was ugh! Those who don't like it stay home, at least there will be peace for real mountaineers, otherwise it all passes when you see the wild crowds in the mountains.

I agree, it was the same at Matizovec...then at Kofce you see this commotion, shouting, children's squealing, bawling, then big dogs grazing on Veliki Vrh...is this still peace in the mountains?, no...this is some fashion trend. It would be interesting to read some older book on etiquette of behavior in the mountains.

If cars are parked in designated places and not anywhere in the forests, it seems quite acceptable to me. Mr. 'Rak', who may no longer be in top condition, as well as others, likes to escape the unbearable heat in the valley, as do families with small children who can't manage long paths. If parents get their children used to hiking in the hills, in their growing years they might prefer a trip to nature instead of to a bar for beer and something else. Better that families with children spend the day in nature than in shopping centers or in front of TV and computers. But I fully agree that it would be interesting to read (and follow!) rules of behavior and consideration for others. In the mountains and in the valley.

Well, yesterday I drove on two roads. The one to Dolga Njiva is not that bad yet (though it really drags), we've driven worse: Kot valley, Bärental to Stol, starting point for Hochgolling near Tamsweg,... Yes, yes even in the west roads to starting points can be bad. But the one to the starting point for Kofce (past the chapel) is really desperate. The easiest is of course to put up a sign that you drive at your own risk and ciao! Of course I agree with those advocating for renovation. @nacka already listed the reasons. About etiquette in mountains we talked in other threads, sure it's an issue, but it has nothing to do with renovating roads to starting points.

Between Jelendol and the upper junction Kofce-Pl. Pungrat 1200m there is really a nasty ditch in between where a personal car already gets a bit stuck with the undercarriage. Additional damage to the road was also caused by recent heavy rains.

Maybe someone knows, what's the current condition of the road to Pungrat pasture or Dolge Njive?

Probably not much better than I described above.

The road to Dolge Njive pasture is ok, you just go carefully and slowly so you don't hit some hole, otherwise no issues. It drags though, yes. At least that's how it was 14 days ago.

On Saturday we plan to hike Košuta from Škrbina to Košutnikov Turn. The best starting point would be Pungrat pasture, if the road there is too bad, then over Dolge Njive.

...The road from Jelendol, some were trying to fix last week, so now it's much better than before, at least those ''nasty'' holes are gone good luck!!

Maybe someone knows if the hut on Dolga Njiva pasture is still open? Say on Sunday?

The road is in very solid condition, of course for these parts. The tour is unique. All huts are closed, also the one on Dolgi Njivi. But the scout hut on Šija pasture operates with very friendly caretakers.

I got the information on Šija, obviously wrong for the hut on Dolgi Njivi. Well, scout hut on Šija will be open until first snow, that's first-hand.
