If we did a more "scouting" tour above Mallnitz on Wednesday, today from the same starting point (upper parking lot below Jamnig Hütte hut) we headed towards Romatenspitze. The ski track for ascent was today, except one short section (a few steps), still continuous from the parking lot onwards. In the lower part snow is visibly thinning out, in the upper part there's still quite a bit. The day was hooooooot, unlike Wednesday almost no breeze, only right on the summit it really blew. Pretty interesting that the summit slope isn't wind-scoured (unlike some other nearby peaks), you can ski down right from the very top. Enjoyable! nasmeh

P.S. To avoid possible "polemics" about the mountain name let me say that we found at least 4 different names in various sources: Romatespitze, Rameterspitz, Romaten Spitze and as in the title Romatenspitze – that somehow "stuck in our ears" best mežikanje

…and that's also written on the "panoramic" sign at the starting point….

Had to check the conditions in Austria a bit. From Mallnitz along the toboggan track-road it went really nicely, above the pasture it didn't look too promising, quite wind-blown and still windy, but higher up there was actually quite enough snow, although a meter of new wouldn't be too much. Well, the weather cleared slightly when we reached the top, but that happens sometimes. The ski wasn't bad and it went to the car.

In the lower part we had to search for snow passages

On the road however there were no such problems

Since so far we've only skied from the top, we went with Irena and Majda to see how the summit looks in dry conditions. We didn't regret it.
For 4 EUROS the barrier opens in the valley and at the parking under Jamniška pasture we found ourselves alone. Then we went past Jamnig hut, followed the road for a while, then right onto the ridge which we didn't leave until the top. Meanwhile we picked some lingonberries, there's a lot this year.
So we wouldn't return the same way, we headed along pathless ridge towards Hagener hut. There was quite some adrenaline scramble. At the saddle halfway we started descending to the pasture where hunters had a picnic and invited us for a drink.
Soon we'll return to these parts with skis. Lp
