Sass Rigais

Yesterday Peter2 had work, I (wife nasmeh ) joined the Lip Bled mountaineering section on the traditional annual trip to the Dolomites. This time 3000er Sass Rigais was on the plan. We used the Col Raiser cable car. Most headed off on a bunch of paths across the extensive pasture, but 8 of us went up to Sass Rigais. We chose the ascent on the eastern side. First across wide meadows, then scree (not too steep or difficult) to the Forcella Salieres col. There the ferrata starts, but it's not overly demanding. One vertical spot, but well equipped with pegs, and one step over the notch where longer legs come in handy nasmeh
At the summit fantastic view.. really breathtaking.
Descent also goes first via ferrata then across crumbly scree slope, which isn't difficult of course but caution is needed. At the end a secured gully and collapsed couloir that brings us back to the wide meadows.
The tour is really wonderful, in magnificent surroundings. But need to watch not to linger too long to catch the last gondola (at 17:30).
No professional pics unfortunately, as the photographer couldn't join this really fantastic trip.
For a taste, one view from a phone pic.

Gondola starts too late for such a tour (8.30am), and the top station is so awkwardly off from the Utia de Ncisles hut (Rifugio Firenze, Regensburger Hütte), that even downhill you can't use it much. So all on foot, by fair means!

To the hut mostly on road, no other way, then mostly flat, also no other way, to the junction on Plan Ciartier plateau, there left into steep collapsed gully and up it to Furcela da Mesdi col (Mittagsscharte). From there to summit I did the ascent on the southwest slope, via ferrata dating to early 20th century. Ascent over scree terrain, protections only here and there, lots of scrambling where hands help a lot. For orientation red bolts, sometimes directing you completely different than you planned. The great scrambling ended too soon, soon I reached the summit ridge and along it to top. There... Yippee, nobody around, just peace and quiet. Calm! Took care of body and soul comfort, had plenty of tasty provisions with me, enjoyed views, pondered this and that, came up with ideas and reconsidered many things, then decided it's time for descent. Slowly went down scree terrain and just before first cables met a guy going up. After cables a bit more walking and already above the trickiest descent part, some slippery bits with staples and cables. There met a couple, she soon dropped out, I stepped aside during her climb so nothing falls on me from under her feet, he decided to wait for me to descend first. Quickly down, then scrambled a bit more and was at Furcela de Saliëries (Forcella Saliëries, Saliëries Scharte). Thought of short rest vanished instantly when I remembered the nice soft grass lower under the peaks. Head to valley, spot a helicopter in distance flying my way. Already think it's for me, then it veers to slopes I ascended hours ago. Engine noise quieter, then louder again, soon helicopter flies around edge directly at me. Hovers above, so I dropped poles and showed "N" sign with hands meaning no help needed. It wobbled a bit, maybe acknowledging, and flew to other side of mountain. Buzzing around for a while, then hovering behind by engine sound, then rose above and flew off in the direction of arrival. Second time such a case, had to show pilot no help needed, good I know how to handle. Rest of descent smooth and fast, sprawled on grass long and wide and recharged soul once more. Divine days like this and yesterday's, also hundreds if not a thousand and more before, high in ranges under blue sky, sunlit, in peace and quiet. Hard to return to people on way to hut and around, crowd even bigger than day before descending Sassongher. Easiest to get drink at bar, not the first time, quickly and friendly served, but outside no seat. From hut to valley alone again, only some cyclists passed, if to gondola surely different. Great trip, really worthwhile, sinfully good nasmeh

This 3-day visit to the Dolomites was dedicated to the Odle group, the main tour Sas Rigais. Regarding parking, cable car (which we didn't intend to use anywayvelik nasmeh) and ascent path already described by Bojan. But for the last part we went via the faces, i.e. east up, west down.
On descent we extended to touristy Secede. Good that it was cloudy and fewer tourists. Cable car slowly stopped running... then up there peace really reigns cool

Maybe this: 12 hours parking at guarded asphalt parking lot, with clean scented toilets: 7€.
