Savinja Trail

Print
bagi26. 02. 2020 14:39:48
We got the idea at the door of the mountain hut on Kal during our recent visit to the Rečiška path. With some homework, I managed to obtain the GPS track of the trail, so I also knew its course. It was all interesting enough that we visited it the next week already nasmeh.

So … Savinja Trail is a circular path, with start and finish in the elongated village of Griže. We chose the clockwise loop, so our first goal was the local hill Bukovica. It's just high enough to shake off the morning chill and warm up to working temperature velik nasmeh. We descended to the village of Zabukovica, crossed it, and on the opposite side of the valley bit into the steep slope towards Gozdnik. The bivouac on top was quite handy for a snack this time too, as the wind obviously often blows around here. Followed by descent and continuation towards Kal and Mrzlica. Past the Špajzer homestead we continued to Kamnik, a steep and partly exposed hill with a small bivouac on top. Again descent and a jump to the popular excursion point Hom. We completed the circular path after a good nine hours in Griže at the morning starting point.

In conclusion …. we walked the entire route and measured 25 km with almost 2100 m elevation gain. This doesn't quite match the official data, but our Garmin Montana 600 doesn't err much. The path runs entirely on marked trails, often steeply laid out. In our opinion, Savinja Trail is more demanding than the Rečiška path. It has fewer kilometers, but they are obviously distributed differently. More in the photo story ...

Coordinates of the starting point in Griže: 46.230655, 15.153987

Zlatko counts for next time, because we'll surely repeat it. It would be time to have a coffee together and chat.
Like Rečiška has become a staple for us, probably this one too, probably next time in the other direction, so something new again. The steepness in some parts is quite serious, maybe easier the other wayvelik nasmeh

First time in Griže and the news of good pizza didn't reach us, but you can tell where we should stop next timevelik nasmeh

My conclusion: Once you get to know these hills, you don't regret at all not continuing the drive (I'm from MB) towards the Alps nasmeh

Personally my favorite trail in Zasavje - Posavje hills is the Rečiška mountain path with addition of Golava and Kamnik. Pure poetry.

Around the end of summer we did the Savinja Trail again. We did it in the opposite direction from the first time and we liked that one too nasmeh. Just the right length and steepness makes you really catch your breath properly. Apparently this path will become our annual mantra, similar to the nearby Rečiška. Recommended. More data in the initial post.

Church in Griže, in front of it there is a large parking lot1
In Griže there is also a mining museum in memory of the past2
This is the present .... nothing but eggs :)3

Another signpost ... we go towards Mrzlica20

On 9.4 the real Savinja trail (K6) will take place, for runners as well as hikers. Well, today I did my own one. From Griž to Griže, where the church this year left heavy memories of death and funeral. Let it be a hike in memory. So it went Hom - Kamnik - Golava - Mrzlica - Kal - Gozdnik - Bukovica (K7nasmeh). Of course before such a trip you make some plan in your head how to pace the path and distribute energy. Well, a severe crisis already on the ascent to Kamnik changed a lot. As a hiker I of course didn't fight against it, but accepted it and saved what was left. Fortunately that wolf step returned on the part I was afraid of (Gozdnik up and about 700m down). In the end blisters made the biggest problem, no Olympic feelings and enthusiasm of coursenasmeh After 8h40min the car finally appeared. Time for some of my statistics, since today I had the chance to see also masters who train these slopes in a completely different pace - uf, how it fliescool the trail is demanding and requires good prior preparation. If at Rečiška your glutes hurt because you have to persist in long transitions between hills, here it's crucial that the muscles for ascent and descent are worked out. Good luck!

Andrej,

..."After 8h40min the car finally appeared"

In such a case one would conditionally need a "self-driving" car. If or when it wouldn't go anymore, descend to the first road, "call your car", and when it arrives, sit behind the wheel and continue home yourself. Well, probably first to the first inn velik nasmeh

This piece of Slovenia is beautiful, due to the close location I of course visit it a lot. Trail variants like Emil and Mateja do, of course an additional challenge for us non-runners. But I think the best view without competition is on the little Hom. best regards

I shortened it a bit because it's not in proper shape yet. In the morning I realized that despite the early hour, there was a crowd at the three parking spots (hike, church, innnasmeh). Then from Griž I went in the opposite direction (via Bukovica), so I finally tried that real wall of this range in full (Zabukovica - Gozdnik, about 750m up). At home I realized something similar exists like K2 Savinja variant. Well, I skipped the little tail over Mrzlicamežikanje If I can do it, I'm bold, as they praise you on the K2 trail Facebook page, I don't knowvelik nasmeh Since my muscles were bouncy, I of course overdid it beyond my limit on Gozdnik summit, and later paid the price on Kamnik and Hom, where they were in pace but destroyed. For the end, I chose a slightly longer and gentler variant from Hom. Such a loop takes us just under six and a half hours. Nice day, perfect for enjoying. Kamnik from the north has been nicely restored by the local hiking club, all praise. From the south downhill you have to be careful, too many of us on it, and even dry it's a real eroded slide. lp

Savinja Trail has become our star staple and we happily hike this varied trail every year. But true, each time it's quite steeper than in memory velik nasmeh. Luckily there are two stops in between where you can tie your soul and immediately everything is easier. Some make it even easier with a paraglider nasmeh. Cico, we wish you good wind ...
The morning is awakening, but we had to get up about an hour earlier :)1
Parked at the large parking lot by the church in the center of Griž2
The morning is cold, but the ascent to nearby Bukovica quickly warms us up3
On the opposite side we descend into the village Zabukovica4
We continue towards Gozdnik, above the farmstead a steep ascent follows5
Just enough to catch our breath on the transverse road, then another steep ascent follows6
Wild garlic is already sprouting vigorously, the air is full of its characteristic scent7
Bivouac at Gozdnik, after many years still in excellent condition8
Still descent from Gozdnik and we head towards Kal9
The path leads us past the old homestead Kanerc10
Nearby there is also a hunting hut of considerable dimensions11
Mountain miners' hut on Kal. Despite Monday, it is open :)12
Most guests are basking in the sun on the terrace, a few of us are also inside13
Across Kalški hrib we continue to Mrzlica14
The slopes are still bare, some blooming decorations can nevertheless be found15
There is also a lot of fallen wood and broken treetops16
Towards the top through an alley of modern techniques17
Still a memorial...18
And we already continue towards Dom na Mrzlici. This one too is full of guests19
We do not stop. We descend the churned slope of Mrzlice towards the Špajzer homestead20
There we turn left in the direction of the next homestead Zork21
Lower there is another one, all in a row are quite isolated22
The path is mostly good, only rarely did we encounter mud23
We are already in the saddle, a steep ascent to Kamnik follows24
A bivouac has stood at the top since 1974. Inside there is a bench and a small table25
There is also a signpost at the bivouac, we two go towards Hom26
The descent on the opposite side is steep and exposed in places27
Mark *S* for the Savinjska mountain trail, 107 km long28
After the long descent we finally reach the hamlet Zahom29
This is the lowest point, then it ascends again. This time towards Hom30
View into the distance towards Gozdnik31
Church of St. Magdalene on Hom32
The nearby Dragov dom is full of visitors too33
A good soul placed a seat on the tree for all the tired ones :)34
We are still descending. In the background our first hill … Bukovica35
The fields are already cultivated, mother nature will provide the crops36
We are closing the circle, we arrived in Griže from the opposite direction37
At the starting point by the church of St. Pankratius38
GPS track. Recorded 25 km and 2060 m of ascent39
