Šavnik and Kobla

I started the tour at the hunting hut behind Mali vrh below the Vrh Bače saddle. After a short ascent I reached the mentioned saddle, from there I continued towards Šavnik. Since it was sunny, beautiful views opened step by step.
At the top, Triglav wrapped in a snow blanket and sunlit appeared, below it low cloudiness.
Then I returned to the saddle and continued the ascent towards Kobla. From Kobla I descended to the pasture behind Črna gora and then climbed to nearby Kravja Črna gora. Descended via ski slope to the start.
The path was entirely dry, as snow in Julian Alps starts around 2000m, slightly lower in gullies. Best, Tadej

Not nice at all.
Tadej, I see you hike a lot. Tell me, are you retired or do you have a job that allows you a lot of free time? Matej

I'm not retired yet, job is 40 hours a week. If I work some Saturday then I'm free during the week and use that for the mountains.

Šavnik was the right choice today. Although I don't even know how high, there were real winter conditions up there today and without proper gear I wouldn't risk to the summit. We drove by car to Soriška planina and another 400m towards Bohinjska Bistrica and parked on the left side of the road at a tiny plowed parking spot. From there along the forest road (of course not plowed) about half an hour, then left up the hill. Quickly we were at Planina za Šavnikom from where we continued to the summit. We didn't stick completely to the summer path but took a bit of our own variant. On the path there is 5-10 cm of new dry snow (in drifts even more than 10 cm) on a hard, partly icy base. We started with snowshoes (not necessarily needed, but allow more comfortable walking), on the last steep slope to the summit we changed them for crampons. The risk of slipping seemed simply too high. A strong northerly wind was blowing, so occasionally on the way back we couldn't see even our own tracks anymore. Today's tour gave us everything you could wish for: nice weather, complete solitude, pure whiteness, no tracks of predecessors, in short, a pure ten nasmeh

Thanks for the good tip and the "track", it was really nice today too although very windy... in places the track was no longer visible but it was worth getting to the summit. Of course crampons and ice axe are mandatory gear when you start climbing.

This morning I went to Šavnik along the path from Vrh Bače. All the way from the start of the path to the foot of Šavnik it was blowing hard. When I passed the last band of forest below the summit there was no more wind just a light breeze, below it was still roaring from the wind. At the summit nice view of the surroundings. From the heavy clouds the sun peeked out, but only for a short time.

Is there any other approach to Šavnik besides the one you did. Is the path marked and how long does it take.

There is also a path to Šavnik from Soriška planina. Behind Litostrojska koča there is a path that leads to Možic. When you reach the top of the climb we get a nice view of the Julijce, Karavanke... then you go further along the path, right goes to Možic left you already see Šavnik. The path is nice and you can hardly miss it. There we also get a view of the Bohinj valley. We take about 1 hour and 15 min from the hut. You also get a stamp. Cheers

Fed up with persistent fog in the valley I wished for some sun. Closest choice was Šavnik. Not a high mountain but web cam from Kredarica showed it's above clouds today.
By car from Bohinj towards Soriska planina. Parked below Soriska peak - at the junction of forest road to Baško sedlo. Today cloud base was right there. 2km walk on road, then to planina Za Šavnikom and then to summit.
Little snow, below Šavnik nice moss, many ski touring tracks, towards top hard and icy (crampons!)
Hard to believe above the stubborn fog covering us for days such idyll nasmeh

Today we were surprised by the low height of the snow cover on Šavnik. Actually, the wind blew the snow off towards the summit. Despite that, some tracks of ski tourers.
We waited for the sunset and went back to the valley.

Yesterday we went to Soriska planina and skied from Možic and Kobla. Snow mostly icy and skins almost mandatory for ascent. Slowly but steadily snow is melting and sunny slopes almost snowless. Šavnik has very little snow so we didn't go to the summit. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/145594/

Yesterday we ascended from Soriska planina to Šavnik and skied along the ridge and eastern forested slope and back to Soriska planina. Peaks above the pasture had many visitors both skiers and hikers. Snow on sunny slopes slowly decreasing. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.si/Kategorije/Novosti/%c5%a1avnik

Start from Petrovo Brdo and along marked path past Vrh Bače to Šavnik. Avalanches did their thing, crossed some debris, lots of rocks on path and small trees. Just behind me a rock whizzed from under Slatnik. Careful all the way. No crampons used anywhere. Returned over Slatnik and below ridge on mule track back to start. Also here over several debris piles but ok without crampons. At end also to Kup

Today from Petrovo Brdo to Šavnik. Luckily spring greenery in forest eased the heat. Met some but not many. Hepatica just below summit in very rich formations. On path remnants from war times. Nice places... Summit as known great viewpoint.nasmeh
