it comes from higher up & under MM it seems pretty worn and thin to me, you have to go quite deep before you can start trudging (but that's why it's deeper there).

Sorry if the topic doesn't fit current conditions but as a scree lover, where have you experienced the nicest or longest scree slopes for descent? My favorites are from Špik towards Kačji graben, really long, and from Nanos, where a large part isn't even visible from afar.

Špik's Kačji graben doesn't even make my top 3 for me - it's pretty long sure, but has lots of separate sections, often quite shallow in between. The best ones that come to mind are descent from Mala Mojstrovka towards Vršič, descent from Kamniško sedlo towards Pastirci, scree in the valley behind Cmír towards Vrata, and probably the best I've done, scree under Kukova špica (almost 1000m drop!).

From Begunjščica it also goes well. That one from Špik didn't impress me at all.

Hmm, looks like more exploring needed =) We'll hike Mojstrovka this year, so it'll be next.

I like Dolga riža west of Stol on the Austrian side.

My longest scree so far was from Kamniško sedlo on the path to Planjava. Pretty cool to me. Once I messed up pretty bad, so since then I always wear gloves. It takes about 4 and a half minutes to get down. Downside is after 6-7 descents my boots were already pretty destroyed. Sometimes the saddle towards Kamniški vrh was good too, but for a while it was pretty "airy" and you had to watch out seriously not to fly off. Haven't tried it for a while now, so don't know how it looks.

I put on something then that I don't mind ruining. For Saturday's Begunjščica my footwear and company weren't suitable for scree, so I went around. That scree under Stol is also very nice to me. Well, overall I'm hooked on scree slopes, I'm able to go up somewhere multiple times just to fly down. For starters those under Vrtača suffice for me (I like pushing to Zelenjak and Palec, just spice up the trip a bit).

I join 5Xum. Under Mojstrovkas, from Planjava towards shepherds and my favorite fast route behind Cmir - Vrata

Well, one classic is, say, descent from bivouac II. There it really flies nicely for a good while without breaks, only at bottom watch the cairns a bit to hit the exit.

Behind Cmir, from Bivouac II, above the bivouac under Kočno,.. In this order.

Sometimes the scree from Durc really shortened the descent from Raduha a lot. We wore robust, durable but heavy (ca. 3 kg) Gojzar boots then, and legs were "more flexible" too. When I descended here last month in today's "fashionable" footwear, I couldn't imagine what would be left of it. Otherwise, I join the opinions of the predecessors.

Regarding footwear - I love descending scree slopes, the boots hold up, though they really need the most care because of that. The longest scree where I enjoyed myself to exhaustion was in Italy, descent from Cima Ombretole, some 500 m drop. Best regards!

Yesterday I descended the scree from Kamniško sedlo towards Pastirji. 350 m drop and just the right surface for a safe and fast descent. I also like the scree at the end of the climbing section via Pipanova lestev - nice descent there too. And the screes from sedlo Gulce almost to Veliki Črlovec. As tough going up as express descent down.
