The path led us with a colleague into the world above Voglajna and Savinja along the line Šentjur - Laško. In the east Rifnik & Resevna above Šentjur as the true beginning and at the end Hum above Laško in the west for the true conclusion and somewhere in the middle the interesting place Svetina and the prominent Grmada. In connection quite a few interesting peaks for completion and confirmation of the Sunday story. Level chaining of peaks and really numerous interweaving of hiking trails that more or less visited mark this world.. On Svetina also tribute to the great traveler and explorer of distant lands - Alma Karlin…

Route & description:Šentjur/Rifnik - Laško/Hum, 28.04.2013

Hum on the Laško side – definitely an interesting peak that marks the path from Celjska koča towards Laško. Hum is anyway a kind of town peak and pride of Laško but interesting that on this forum it still has no descriptions.


Weather sunny, terrain mostly dry, some light wind for the right ambiance. Again help from SŽ, which are a very suitable solution for visiting peaks in the area of Voglajna, Savinja, Sava. Distances are larger and here I mainly combine level approach that enables such ,,linking,, of various places in this part of Slovenia.

Path from Celjska koča to Laško is especially in the middle part very poorly marked. Don't know if neglected - faded markers, lots of fallen trees and branches...

From Štor to the settlement Svetina along the most direct - ,,sharp path over Žlajfa,, a pleasant ,,Y,, extension to Olešče or the point of the church Sv. Peter via Celjsko hribovje already somewhat more concretely into the world towards Jurklošter/Lisca. Return somewhat more in line around to Celje through Svetina again, under Tolsti vrh, by Celjska koča and under Vipota through the Pečovnik ravine and over Zagrada. It was pleasant, paths without problems except path marking, which mežikanje between Kanjuci and Olešče is not there and some basic orientation skills were needed. Around Celjska koča of course many visitors, while the rest of the route in solitude...Yes, beautiful is this world high above Laško, slightly mysterious but rugged. The elevations somewhat surprised me, I calculated roughly ,,by eye,, a bit less and in the ascents had to toil quite a bit.

From the end of Kanjuce settlement/municipality Štore the path towards Olešče/municipality Laško is no longer marked or two, three markers are still from the times of ,,Tito's Yugoslavia,,. The path is somewhat traceable, because you see the church above Olešče downhill and follow the main macadam over Petrovo selo. I'm interested mežikanje which mountaineering association has this path in management/care!?.

Today short evening sequence from Štor, over Opoka, Kompol/Sv. Lovrenc to the 511 meters high Turn/Sv. Janez Krstnik with colleague Vinko. Interesting path, short educational miniature of the world of Celjsko hribovje. Three hours available and this section despite short distance good cross-section of paths above Voglajna. No problems with night orientation, third time walking this path and it has somehow settled in my head and legs. On return still a bit to the right towards the junction Dobošek or Vrunčev dom…and after quick descent another mini loop around Štor, actually the steelworks and live view of logistics processes at unloading scrap metal from the overpass. Paths dry, temperature pleasant and nicely used time of three evening hours.

Celje - Laško: Hiking activity above the left bank of Savinja in Celjsko hribovje and from Celje higher into the world over Suhi potok to Pečovniška koča, under Tolsti vrh, Svetina to Olešče. Main activity was targeted at continuation from Olešče over Tevče to Vrh nad Laškim. Followed, somewhere the path of the 14th division, which is not marked, so following road connections. From Vrh nad Laškim descent along the old road past Stopče to Laško and end of the path...
Along the path visited interesting waterfall Lahomniški Sopot, 30.03.2014, which was worth a proper stop as it impresses with its beauty on the Lahomnica stream...

Another small curiosity…besides the undisputed ,,champion,, above Sava Kum, Geopedie.si search finds two more Kum peaks in Slovenia, one is between Mirna and Šentrupert on Dolenjska at 334 meters while the other is 651 meters high on the path between Svetina and Laško near Kanjuc. Of course we with colleague extended a bit to the right to see and perhaps step on this peak. A bit before it to the right is 711 meters high Rtič, while Kum is a bit further and left. The local along the path was surprised by the question and showed us the daddy above Sava, which was also visible and about Kum nearby knew nothing. Of course I showed him with hand the peak that should be Kum above Kanjuci. He said it's Kom or Komski hrib and called so among locals and wouldn't be swayed about Kum. Geopedia of course speaks of Kum but I found out in these years of hiking explorations that often there are small differences due to vowel usage. Of course it's not important, we didn't continue to the very peak which was a bit lower, took photo for memory and left to the early Sunday afternoon roe deer, hares, wild boars... Still a small glimpse into broader knowledge of space and time dimensions. Cheers

View downwards to the 651-meters-high Kum aka Kom hill, homestead on the right...doesn't matter if it's Kom or Kum, pleasant impression from the path between Celje and Laško in the broader spatial context.6
