I think those huts are called kažun. But I doubt they hold back the rain.

With us it's called shepherd's hut, because shepherds in the past, when grazing, found shelter from the rain, I don't know, that's what they said, I don't know the name kažun, first time hearing it.

I too for karst huts only know the term shepherd's huts, kažuni are in Istria.

Yes of course, probably dry-stone masters built quite a few around the village. I know of three near us. Path to two is marked. The third hut I discovered completely by chance when looking for path in the thicket because everything was overgrown. This hut is very nice, but no path to it.

Near Vilenica cave there are many. Boris Čok from Lokve built (or renovated) them, who learned the "mastery" himself. Kažuni are in Istria. Around Vodnjan, Galižana and Kanfanar there are huge numbers and most are quite large and really masterfully built. In this area they also had very good and useful stone - škrle, from which they built very nice structures. They surely protect from rain if the roof is properly built.
