Hello, I was looking if there's maybe already an open thread for my question, but I couldn't find it, so I'll just ask here. Finally found hiking boots that fit me like a glove; bought Salomon Authentic model. The only trouble are the shoelaces; they keep coming loose and untie all the time. I thought they'd break in; but after six hikes (uphill walking about 3 hours), no better. Shoelaces stay tied up to half an hour (downhill even less), and it's a bit annoying to keep tying them (but to be honest, sometimes in a steep incline it's handy to take a little rest ). Since I never had such problems with any previous boots, I don't blame it on not tying them tight enough. Any experiences with this, what to do? Replace shoelaces, wait for them to soften or what? Thanks for tips and help and lots of enjoyment in the hills ahead.

Try flat, cotton ones of suitable length.

I had similar issues; if you have long enough laces, try double tying, it helps me.

Same, have Salomon (round laces). Simple: knot, wrap shoe and knot again. Holds whole day, after tour untie no problem. Regards

On my winter Salomon boots the laces didn't soften even a bit, so don't count on that too much. When tied, just make one more regular knot after the bow, and it will hold.

Advice from an experienced mountaineer friend: tie classic bow, then just the bow loops once more into a knot. Held Jalovec up and down

My experience is I've had both round and flat laces, but always cotton, so material obviously matters. I'd advise you to just replace them, so no nice hike turns unpleasant. Good luck!

@ Raina I have the same problems with Salomon boots. Otherwise we're super with that one minus - laces . Especially downhill bothered me, no proper feel in boots, on steep with completely loose laces (about like having ski boots unclipped ) Tried with one more bow, but still came undone non-stop, so now I make another knot over the first one and then the bow. Somehow works! Untying no problem either. Enjoy your Salomons further

I use for those laces that come undone a fantastic plastic gadget, get it in any haberdashery. That black thing on the picture... First bought with laces, then just the plastic in the shop. Laces through and bow, problem solved.

A few days ago on this forum I commented my Salomon Quest 4D GTX boots and wrote practically only superlatives. Forgot to mention the only problem, luckily solvable with methods above: LACES. They constantly come undone for me too Looks like a flaw of Salomon brand.

I sign under Zebdi and Jus. Holds till home and even then you gotta make an effort to untie them.
