Yesterday, in beautiful sunny weather, I visited the mentioned four summits. Since none of the summits exceeds 700m in height, they are suitable for ascent in these days when there is snow higher up in the mountains. LP Tadej

I climbed Sabotin last fall in beautiful sunny weather. The peak that barely exceeds 600m offers an exceptional view on the Gorizia area and the lower Soča River. Of course, the highest Julian Alps peaks are not missing.
The southern path is easy and suitable for kids too, the northern ones I don't know. Probably nice too.nasmeh

On Saturday I went up to Škabrijel, also here a nice circular path is possible... On top there is a tower I don't like, but it allows a good view.

Yeah, Škabrijel has more paths, the best is walking along the trench itself to the top which stretches across the whole hill, on top is a tower which really is nothing special, but peace and view on Sabotin and other peaks nearby.

Is there any path from Solkan? I would connect Škabrijel - Sv.Gora and Sabotin.

I'm interested which path to Sveta Gora goes through trenches and cave, or where its start is? I'd like to continue to the mausoleum on Vodice and check out the caverns there, if possible?
For Sabotin I'm interested what circular path I can do and which one is that path through the shooting trench mentioned by ales50?

@Laščan
The start of the path through trenches and 300m long cave begins shortly after the road from Preval starts ascending to Sv Gora. At the first parking lot, at the first (?) station of the way of the cross, turn left and continue following the marked path.
At the top of Sv Gora only one path branches off to the south; descend it and at the first junction follow the sign to the mausoleum - from the junction to the top approx. 20 min.
From Sabotin you'll hardly make a circular path to Sv Gora and Škabrijel; I suggest circular path Nova Gorica/Solkan - Sv Katarina ("Kekec") - Škabrijel - Preval - Sv Gora - Vodice - bend on Solkan/Preval road - NG/Solkan.

Lp, Filip.

From Solkan near GO we drove towards Lokve and parked at the parking lot at the first sharp right bend. Instead of the forest road we took the steep indicated path uphill, which after about 15 minutes of ascent joins the one leading to Sv. Gora. Then crossing and joining the path at the junction of three paths, from which we chose the one through WWI trenches leading to General Gonzaga's mausoleum. From there west to the signs for caverns and into one of them. Nice to immerse in history for a while, although no one approves of wars. There are so many tunnels and caverns that we'll have to go to Vodice again. We returned via circular path.. on forest road back to the three paths junction and then west another 700 m to left branch. This little path leads straight to the parking lot. Nice tour, suitable for everyone. And educationalnasmeh

I was also there yesterday with female colleagues on Sv. Gora. We parked on Solkan Lokve road, at the parking lot by the way of the cross and turned left where it says Path through trenches. The longest tunnel is 260 m long and very interesting, quite steep so you use rope. On Sv. Gora it was quite cold and fog swirling. But I see that another path with tunnels needs to be done.

On 19th and 24th January 2015 I set off from Solkan to Škabrijel, Sv. Gora and Vodice. I started walking at OŠ Solkan. I got to the starting point by city bus. If by car, I would go to Škabrijel past the church in Solkan and park at the parking lot at the end of Solkan.

First time there was some sun, no views. Second time almost all day cloudy (only on Vodice the sun peeked out briefly), but the Julian Alps and Dolomites could be seen nicely all the way to the sea.
The path is not too strenuous. Some effort only on the ascent to Sv. Gora through a longer cavern, which we can skip and go to the top on the normal path. Path to Škabrijel (1.5 hrs) well marked. To Preval (0.5 hrs) no mistake possible. Several paths to Sv. Gora (1 hr). Trench path marked with hiking marks, normal path with blue marks. From Sv. Gora to Vodice (45 min) guided by Path of Peace marks. A few steps from the junction an unmarked trail branches off, continuing as a mule track, which in a straight line with one bend takes us to Vodice summit.
Worth taking time to see the mausoleum, nearby monument, cavern and walk along the shooting trenches.

From Vodice I went back the same path to the junction (20 min) and continued on the road towards Plave. After 5 minutes I turned left onto the mule track path to Preval. After 15 minutes of further walking I reached the spring. The mule track continues to the bend below Preval (30 min), where it joins the Solkan-Lokve road. From the bend to Solkan 2.5 km on the road, to the inn at Preval 800 m and 1 km to the junction at Preval for Škabrijel.
Walking on the road is very dangerous, so it is better to go to Solkan on the little path to which the marks direct us a few steps from the spring. The path is poorly visible and easily confused with game tracks. Faded marks are scattered quite frequently and worth following carefully, as the path during descent changes direction several times, mostly to the left, finally to the right and then straight down to the mule track crossing the slopes a bit above the Solkan-Plave road. From the spring to the mule track approx. 15 min. The mule track is well passable and gently descending crosses the slopes below Sv. Gora all the way to the former lower station of the cable car, now a restaurant (45 min). Under the cable car I crossed the road at the Solkan HE dam and after a few meters crossed back to the other side and continued to the sports center Žogica (5 min). From there on the footpath past the Solkan bridge and cemetery to the parking at the end of Solkan (10 min).

Total moderate walking 5.5 to 6 hrs. With stops and sightseeing at Vodice I needed under 7.5 hrs. Initially I also planned Sabotin, but lack of inspiration deterred me from continuing. Otherwise the ascent to Sabotin from Solkan is a separate story, as we start walking from the lowest starting point. Quickly it can be done in 2-3 hrs (both directions), but the hill is so beautiful that it is worth taking time for a separate hike. I go to Sabotin quite often, so this time the ascent with lack of colors would be just a challenge after a full day walk.
On the ascent to Škabrijel, Sv. Gora and Vodice we gain approx. 1,000 m elevation (without intermediate descents), on Sabotin an additional 500 m.
The path is long enough and mostly easy, so thoughts easily drift away to the heights. So that we are not carried too high, the Sveta Gora bells take care, every 15 min mercilessly cutting time and with muffled ringing reminding us of our last hour. Eerie.

We went a bit differently. From Solkan past the military cemetery under the former cable car to Sveta Gora, we turned onto the path that goes to Vodice. There we looked at the monument to Italian alpinists and the mausoleum of General Gonzaga. The path leads to an open-air museum with caverns and many tunnels. We continued to the hamlet Vodice with three houses. Further past memorials from the First World War to the village Paljevo. And along the path to Plave, where there is a renovated little church of St. Aloysius by the Soča River on display. And in Plave by bus to the starting point. Although the day was gray and gloomy, with occasional light drizzle, the hike was interesting and really nice.

Yesterday we skalaši walked a nice circular path along the Soča front trail. Starting point in Solkan at the restaurant Primula - former lower station of the cable car to Sv. Gora. To Sv. Gora through tunnels and caverns. After coffee in the restaurant at the basilica on Sv. Gora, we continue over Preški vrh to the summit of Vodice. After a short stop further towards the hamlet Vodice and then to the starting point.

This time the goal was to see the nativity scenes and not just any. We visited those on Sv. Gora above Solkan. You have to walk quite a bit to them and we even planned a nice circular path nasmeh. Not exactly short, but still manageable in these winter days.

We started in Solkan at the railway station and past the church of St. Stephen and the quarry headed towards Kramarci. A bit further we crossed the roundabout at the main road and climbed up the mountain trail towards Sv. Gora. It was early, so no one was in the church except us and we viewed the really beautiful nativity scenes in a special peace.

Then came the continuation which took quite some time. Over Preški vrh and past Vodice we descended to Paljevo hamlet, from there down to Plave, crossed the bridge over Soča and on the other side climbed to Vrhovlje above Koji. From there followed a muddy traverse almost to the hunting lodge, then we climbed to the ridge towards Sabotin. The day had already tipped well into the second half when the hut under Sabotin finally appeared. We didn't stop, but went straight to the summit, from where there's a great view in all directions. Of course the army knew that too, so the Sabotin ridge was the front line and accordingly full of holes. Followed only the descent to Solkan, this time on the most comfortable, Italian variant. Legs demanded their due velik nasmeh. More in the photo story …

We park by the railway and head towards the village. It is almost still night, but a long path lies ahead of us1

The ridge of Sabotin also glows in the morning light. We will return along it4
