The Škofjeloško hill range is a pre-Alpine hill country that can, if you just have enough time, reveal quite a lot...besides views of the plains, cities and the bustle in them, it can also offer that authenticity that the tooth of time has already gnawed in many places ....and of course the fast pace of life. It also reveals quite a few regional characteristics, among which is architecture . On a day like yesterday's holiday Monday, when it wasn't possible to go anywhere higher, visiting part of the famous Loška mountain trail was really pleasant ...and again one of those that I would really regret missing .... The cold day, which was forecasted already in the middle of last week, invited us to places that I visited about a year ago-well, at least most .Okay, Križna gora and Planica are points I visit regularly, the others only now and then....or even more rarely .The desire to walk the trail to Dražgoše has been smoldering in me for quite some time, probably a few years. Joining that classic hike to Dražgoše doesn't suit me somehow because of the crowd ,which is bigger every year, so I was even happier for a hike like yesterday's .... Morning call reports:"IT'S SNOWING OUTSIDE....!!And I knew it wasn't an April Fool's joke ,as something like that was forecasted, as said. Well nothing, let's go...to the snowy fairy tale ,which called us so into its shelter. From some suburb of Škofja Loka, Podlubnik, we climbed via the hamlet Trnje to my so familiar Križna gora .Of course the valley is white, but from the fresh snow those characteristic purple crocus tips peek out ....there's quite a lot of them.Yes yes, spring has been waking up for a while, but winter still won't give in anyway .We slowly climb via Cavarna to Križna gora...we don't see the church all the time of course, as the fog is quite thick ...At the exit from the forest we catch in the thick fog the outlines of the church of St. Cross....Despite the weather accompanying us, I'm surprised by quite a considerable number of visitors ...I'm happy for every one, as that's how I get confirmation that such "gloomy" weather shouldn't deter us from visiting any local hill .I wanted to register for the 20th time at the hunting hut this year, but the book wasn't there. So soon we go on.Moderate walking then leads us past the hamlet Križna gora, across the ridge to the hamlet Planica and Lavtarski vrh.At the church of St. Archangel Gabriel we drink some tea ,then steeply down through that mystical and mysterious beech forest we descend to the village Planica. The information board at the end of the village reveals how the path leads us...and where we can admire the views from if the weather is right. We stroll along the asphalt road to the next point, Čepulje. We two also take a stamp, then...yes, towards Špičasti hrib and St. Mohor .All the time we walk on, first about 100m asphalt, then gravel path that nicely gradually rises. At the junction where we would turn left to today's highest point St. Mohor, we turn right towards Špičasti hrib .The path rises slightly, but of course more snow with every meter...under it some ice remained, so descent is cautious.Pity, because on this summit, which is known for the traditional hike in May, there's no view, but there are quite a few benches that offer pleasant rest .The summit is at 835m.So we descend and continue towards St. Mohor .On the way we meet quite a few runners, and some hikers too.The path leads us through forest and past lush meadows of Planinica, which offer nice views towards St. Mohor and villages below it in good weather .To reach our today's highest point, we still go through the village Bezovnica, then a bit through forest and across meadow to the former sacristan's house and church. We were lucky that today's owner of the sacristan's house came up a few minutes before us, so we could comfortably rest in it .We thank the gentleman for hospitality and kindness, then descend towards Lajše.First we missed the turnoff because of snow that covered the signpost ,but then, with help from a local lad, found it.We waded into a big pile of snow, up to half a meter somewhere .Via Prevoje we went towards Lajše, where we came across a small chapel again. Here we could continue right towards Jamnik, but we preferred the path towards Dražgoše .For quite some time a local dog followed us, who obviously knew the path very well, as he led us .Since there were still about 3km to the center of Dražgoše ,and the bus was waiting for us in Selci at 18:45 ,we preferred to head to the valley. We walked on the asphalt road that winds about 5km and leads us through Lajška grapa full of water. Finally in Selci, where deserved beer and hot white coffee await us . The holiday Easter Monday I pleasantly used again ...and I don't regret it.I discovered and got to know some new corners of our Loško hill range again . Thanks Bačo and Jurij for pleasant company . Next time Dražgoše and Prtovč won't escape us ....But until then...some new ascent awaits us .
