Slovenian Mountain Trail preparations

Hello,

this year I decided on a slightly different vacation. I plan to set off on foot for about 7 days and chose to start at the beginning of the Slovenian mountain trail - in Maribor. So, I'd start walking in Maribor, each day hike about 5-6 hours and wherever I reach in 7 days I'd arrive and then somehow find transport home. No fitness issues. But since I've never set off from home on foot with a backpack, I'm curious what and how much to take (clothes, food, extra gear, etc). Please any advice on preparing for such a multi-day trip. Thanks and best regards!

You mean sleep outdoors, eat from backpack? Anyway, powerbank is good to take with you, if you think something could go wrong and you'd have empty phone at the same time.

if you have no fitness issues, 5-6 hours daily is too little.

otherwise, what will you do the other 18-19 hours daily?

You must have good maps/mountain maps with you. Good to study which huts you'll sleep in (assuming not outdoors) and timetable from hut to hut. Daily up to 13 hours moving including breaks. Have one spare t-shirt and sleeping t-shirt. Plus anorak and fleece for evening and bad weather and spare pants of course. On such tour eat at huts usually, can't carry that much food. But have energy bars and nuts. Of course enough liquid (2-3 liters) and refill along. Footwear most important. From experience advise at every stop/break/summit first take off boots and socks, dry socks (to avoid blisters) and put on sandals (which you have for hut too). Then enjoy view, snack, stamping booklet....
For multi-day tour 30l backpack more than enough (I bivouacked several times with mini sleeping bag and mat in pack). Walk days in same sweaty t-shirt no worry and enjoy. Socks good to change every 2-3 days. If can't dry during stop, better put on spares and previous socks dry by next stop.

When I went this route first years ago I had problems. Don't know how now. Namely, from Ruška hut to hut at Pesek 5-6 hours. No problem if fit as you say. Problem was-or back then-when after about two hours reach moor. There were no proper marks then and we got lost, so in pitch dark accidentally reached hut at Klopnem vrh and stayed there. So careful.

Yeah, maybe 5-6 hours walking per day too little. Didn't think what to do rest of time. You took it easy nasmeh Don't know, never been multi-day on foot, so thought not overdo 10 hours day. Though I say I have fitness, still bit afraid how it would be walking 7 days 10 hours day... Anyway would see on go how it goes. As I saw huts every few hours. When reach one see how tired and time and decide on spot sleep there or continue..
Food: thought breakfast in hut, dinner in hut, need snacks in between. Can I buy some along or carry for 7 days? Drinking water in every hut?

Powerbank good idea, and sandals, wouldn't think of that myself.

Should I take sleeping bag too though plan sleep in huts? Reserve huts in advance or arrange on spot? Better mountaineering boots (over ankle) or hiking shoes (under ankle)?

So clothes as little as possible and something for rain, right? And maps. Are there maps in Slovenian Mountain Trail guide?

Food - as I wrote, take only some bars and nuts. Eat all meals at huts (food at our huts is really poor, but you'll survive a week). If you reach a valley, buy some treat at the store.
Drink - Slovenes are lucky, potable water almost everywhere. Pohorje is very watery, refill anywhere. If you see a spring, refill reserves. Take maybe some powder or tablets for isotonic drinks (cedevita not the best). I treated myself to radler midday (better non-alcoholic), evening a beer.
Sleeping bag - if sleeping at huts, don't drag it. Buy a sleeping sheet (silk best), folds to minimum. No need for reservations, huts around Triglav most crowded....
Shoes - I swear by low shoes. Sole should be vibram.
Maps - can buy 1:50000 maps for almost all Slovenia. Better 1:25000
Sun - take some cream, cap with visor. If raining, hole up in a hut and plan ahead.
Sweat - good to rinse off sweat before sleep, sleep much better. Almost everywhere stream or tap at huts, wash "doggy style". Have small travel towel that folds tiny. That's why I said have one t-shirt (cotton) just for sleeping. Use it last day returning home.
Otherwise don't complicate, forget unnecessary civilization comfort and enjoy nasmeh

Problem will be "refilling" the hip flask.

lynx; that's what I remembered from the top of my head. At actual packing I'll limit to 10-11 kg, and exclude "less important" mežikanje

miri; haha, didn't think of refilling, will have to ask a buddy to bring supply e.g. to Kamniško sedlo velik nasmeh

Trobec: Definitely nasmeh one week or one month, backpack content wouldn't change much

Hello,

I'll refer to the topic and descriptions above. Slowly starting SPP (got first stamp yesterday) nasmeh, at least at the beginning I plan 2- to 4-day stages, and not jumping to Julians.. cool
In short, if anyone is thinking similarly, let them report and we'll coordinate, mainly easier logistics and company usually helps.
Regards
