Hello! I'm interested in which smartphone apps you mountain lovers use in relation to hiking, of course

Since it's already been a good two years since the last post, I'd reopen this topic. There was some debate today about this topic, and I'm curious if there's any new feature or direction, what suits whom, and recommendations # this and that # especially on phones. Of course, I mean apps, especially accurate GPS. Thanks to all.

@MitjaBelak, in my opinion Locus and PZS maps. Regards, Nino

Nino, thanks. Maybe you know, or someone else, Locus has a paid and free version for Android. Maybe you have some info if there's any difference between them, not that I wouldn't pay for registration, but sometimes you pay for something that's not free, but practically ALMOST THE SAME as the free version. It's true that with PZS maps I haven't dealt much yet. I'm mainly looking for a fairly reliable app so that on the path I've already gone through and it's recorded, in case of trouble like fog, I can quite reliably get back on it.

I have the free version. In it you get three maps for free, I took Slovenia, Croatia and Spain. The maps are solid, on PZS you can see the difference between the basic Locus map and PZS map. For Biokovo for example it's more useful than Smand's, on Mallorca it was the only one we used. More maps, also PZS, are available with the paid version, quite a few are free. In the full version you also get more data about the walked path, but I haven't delved deeper yet.

TNX to both, I'll try Locus first.

On my Android phone I have installed: Locus Map, OsmAnd+, ViewRanger, OziExplorer. At least 15 years or more ago I started using Ozi Explorer for PCs. At home I made a route on PC and then printed the map with the route. Then I got my first Garmin and transferred the route from OziExplorer to Garmin, which I used during actual hiking in nature. Out of sentimentality I now bought the Android version of OziExplorer too. I installed Locus Map only recently so I don't have much to say. For about 2 EUR I bought the PZS Triglavski park map. I used ViewRanger on a tablet as a supplement to Garmin because the maps in ViewRanger were the same as printed paper maps. Garmin maps seemed a bit "weird" compared to printed maps. For the last 10 years I've mainly used Garmin Oregon for navigation - orientation. With two AA batteries it lasts about 16 hours. For Android though I personally find OsmAnd (plus) the most useful, which costs about 10 EUR. There's also a free version with limitations, I'd have to check what they are. OsmAnd uses maps - data from OpenStreetMap, which are publicly available. The app itself generates a route to the desired destination. You can choose between car, bike, foot navigation. And public transport, which I haven't checked or used. The app uses GPX format for route data. So data exchange with other apps that use GPX format is possible (mainly all kinds of Garmins). You can also load routes - tracks found on the net into OsmAnd. The app also allows recording the walked path. For a more accurate comparison you'd need to take time and actually check in nature what each app offers and how accurate it is.

I use Locus maps but it no longer shows the walked path, just a line between start and end point (straight line), how can I fix the problem - does anyone know?

Check the settings, battery saving, if you have the app running in the background enabled.

I noticed that on Locusmap app on OSM(outdoors) map some detailed names (huts, pastures, water sources etc.) and other info are no longer visible, which were visible until recently...sometimes only trail traces remain...Has anyone else noticed something changed? It was useful on terrain sometimes...

Check if you have the "LoPoints" option enabled.
