Šmohor

In the early days of August, my boyfriend and I were at Šmohor, which is reflected in Krn Lake, opposite Lemež. From Lepena we walked there around 4 and a half hours including stops (interesting holes and remnants of the First World War are quite interesting for the little one). On the top there is neither a logbook nor a stamp, the view of Krn and Vrh nad Peski and the surroundings of Krn Lake is still quite interesting. Easy tour, nicely marked.

Because we had to test new hiking bootsmežikanje, the weather was no obstacle, though at the agreed time it was raining quite nicelyzavijanje z očmi, so we shifted and shortened the original plan... start in Lepena and on to Krn Lake, then depending on the weather's favorability extended to Šmohor. Path interesting, war remains visible, easy, with now one more snow patch that causes no problems. Since the summit has no box, no book, but just a half-collapsed cairn (we fixed itmežikanje), we almost passed by it, hehe. Views foggy, but today everything was "in the boots", which performed super. On the way back, a stop at Dulje pasture, where they have (recommend-checked) excellent cheese and curd and a very fun hostvelik nasmeh. Of course obligatory radler in the hut at Krn Lakes, which was open, Dr. Klement Juga hut in Lepena not operating. The weather was good and the day was well utilizednasmeh

Yeah, you already know all locals around there, they let you into their homes and pantries. Obviously they like you too.

Rozka, one can only admire you. Yeah, this year they started dropping early. Livestock surprises me so early. Rain seems not to spoil your plans. I was yesterday wet as a mouse. Haven't seen avriklja this year. Those yellow, those tall trumpet ones, whatever. Right now I don't know the proper name. Lately I've been devoting myself a lot to mountain botany. I think it was the Duplje pasture. In summer I also plan to go to that area and to the mountain above the lake, not Krn. Hope we meet up there sometime. L. P.

That guy at Duplje pasture is quite a character, in a positive sensenasmeh and makes dairy products from a cauldron from 1850... worth visiting him, as goodies are plentiful there.
Above or around Krn Lake there are many peaks that are somewhat neglected because of Krn, but worth visitingnasmeh

Well, again Lepenanasmeh... past Krn Lake, where at the end I leave the marked path and branch off to the right onto a barely visible trail that leads to the saddle over Potoče. I follow it to the end of the "traverse" and then left on my own to the hunters' hut on Polje pasture. The first stop and warming of the sun's rays keep me there for quite a whilevelik nasmeh... I continue on the mulattiera, which is nicely traceable, even noticed a really very faintly visible remnant of a mark, and ended today's ascent on Šmohor. Nice pics, rozka. I was around here last year on Aug 11, but also visited Montura and Baba. Wonder if anyone knows when the huge rockfall from Mali Šmohor happened. I ran into it on descent and felt it was still very fresh.

Another neglected peak in the shadow of Krn. Yesterday, Saturday 23.9., probably wouldn't have gone to Šmohor if we had left home with my daughter a bit earlier. From Krnske to Krn is almost three hours. To Šmohor one and a half hours. Hut in Lepena is closed. Hut at Krnske is open. And yesterday it was well visited. Weather really nice for walking. Only that mulattiera to Krnske is a bit boring - monotonous. But that's why the path to Šmohor is so much nicer, although I went to the top alone. We stayed too long at the lake. She rather went slowly to Lepena to the car. Shame, because the path to Šmohor is really nice. Marked. And not difficult at all. The mountain doesn't even have 2000 m a.s.l. Views are unique. Remains from the first war are along the path to the top.

8.10.2019. Veliki Šmohor yesterday. Ascent from Lepena along an interesting mulatjera from the pasture on the field. We didn't know the path. And the descriptions from hribi.net were really helpful. Quite quickly we found the cairn and continued along the path that goes around the hill under the summit. Then it's not hard to reach the top. No wind. Warm. We thought it would be colder. Another hiker came behind us but from the other side. From the monument under Peski. We descended to the other side under the remains of military buildings to the path that leads to Lepena. From Lepena it took us four hours and fifteen minutes. Really nice panoramic and interesting tour. I think not many hikers go here.

Interesting tour we walked yesterday. And all three decided to turn back somewhere in the middle from Prehodce towards the monument Vrh nad Peski. The day was nice sunny. Warm. We used winter gear from Prehodce onwards. There was untouched snow. No footprints anywhere. At the fortifications between both Šmohors we took a short break. We walked about 22km. And nine hours and forty-five minutes. Yes this path is long. But nice interesting. In summer probably quite hot. Although without conquered summit. It will wait.

The weather forecast for Sunday was rather bad and when I wake up at a strange hour and hear it's raining outside, I'm in doubt. But supposedly better weather in Soča valley, says the internet? And the longest day of the year would be a shame to write off like this before it even started. When driving to Lepena a bit later I already credit myself the first victory, it was close to turning back to bed and snoring till morning.

Mulatjera to Koča pri Krnskih jezerih is more gaining height steadily, so I use good feeling and push, have breakfast already at the hut. Goal are both Šmohors actually, but not to be done too quick and to see the landscape where I've been only in winter so far, I go around via Prehodce, on the way set as side goals also Mala Montura and Malen. Why these two? Well, marked as peaks on the map and somewhere close to the path, that's enough for me.

Uh, mistake! Mala Montura is a small, obscure, never visited by anyone bump that's so insanely overgrown that hiking up and down is just fighting the densest brush our mountains have. From the path up maybe 100m ascent, but still I take more than half an hour to the top. No view, mood so-so, because I carelessly stepped on a branch in between, when I stepped off it stood up like in a cartoon and gave me a nice slap. And as I grumble to myself about the rudeness of today's young vegetation it starts pouring. Ok, stop, pull out rain jacket and backpack cover and gear up, when suddenly it stops raining and sun shines so hot I get warm instantly. Ok, pack things back, when it pours again. Damn. Repeat, but this time the thundercloud obviously knows I know it's messing with me, so it fucks off somewhere.

Šmohor, actually both Mali and Veliki, are nice easily accessible peaks with good views, but I notice that half my condition is taken by office sitting, the other half by Corona, so I puff to the top. Still, with some break in between soon at the summit, where I find the summit book box full to the brim with water. Construction flaw or someone left it open? Also on maps confusion which is actually Mali and which Veliki, as sometimes swapped. On the way back I stop for lunch at the hut (service lightning fast, friendliness high, gnocchi so-so but let's say ok, price reasonable), then time to head back to the valley and long long way home.
The initial mule track allows quick progress.1

Something was buzzing around me, but when I told it it was a mountain hoverfly, it flew away offended.6

Yesterday's visit to Šmohor from Lepena. It was cloudy in the morning, but it turned into a nice, not too hot day. There were four of us at the top, which wasn't bad at all. The path is nicely marked and without peculiarities.
