Today is a day off, at work we call it weekend package. Despite the rain forecast I don't feel like sitting around and I drive to Lipa pass. I walk to the top of Savinja mountain trail Smolnik. Initially the path follows a forest cart track which after fifteen minutes first branches to the path towards Menina planina past Smolnik and to the path towards Menina planina past village Slopi, where the paths join. About twenty minutes below the summit we leave the forest road and steeply head to the summit. On sections where there is slip risk and last step over rocky terrain a newly built wooden fence helps us. The summit itself is not panoramic because heavily overgrown so we have to continue the path about fifty meters to the clearing which unfortunately is already overgrowing to open the view (today there was none) on KSA with Ojstrica. Otherwise along the path only occasional views towards Lower Savinja valley and nearby peaks like Čemšeniška planina, Kum, Mrzlica and closest to us peak Rovt below Menina planina with church of St. Jošt.

Today from Lipa over the summit to Motnik and further to Limovc.

Smolnik is a peak that evaded me for a long time, so I included it in the hike to Goli vrh on Sunday and was thrilled. The trail seemed suitable for children, with whom we climbed to the top yesterday 3.11. The kids enjoyed it, as the path isn't strenuous but varied enough to be interesting.

Mountains and hills outlive us and our posts.
