Hello, can someone tell me what the snow conditions are like on Pokljuka, especially if the roads are normally passable? Thanks!

Today I planned to go from the monument towards Blejska koča and maybe further, but the parking lot which anyway doesn't allow much space was already occupied. Some parked so badly that space ran out quickly. The road to the monument is passable, but meeting is possible only at 1-2 spots.. Turning around at the parking itself very difficult. (Later we came across many cars parked by the road near the junction for Šport hotel- (many started for Blejska k. from there)). So my wife and I decided to go to Rudno Polje and from there towards Uskovnica and Zajamniki. At the "nordic" center there was no choice but to go straight over the trampled cross-country ski slope to the bend, then on a partially trodden path to the hut at Uskovnica (open). The further path over pl. Praprotnica to planina Zajamniki, where we hadn't been for a long time, dragged a bit because of the wet, collapsing snow.. To there- unplowed from neither side and poorly trodden. Although I can talk about some exertion, the experience in nice weather was just like that.

today with buddy went again to Pokljuka to check if meteorologists are right... At RP -3, cloudy but still somehow stable weather. We head towards Studorski pass. Reach the little lakes, then conditions deteriorate catastrophically, fog you could cut with a knife... Decide to turn back(better go home south than wade to waist...) Conditions: skin track now made, you'll deal with powder sinking in places up to waist. Behind us two tourers came, used our track , back to RP same way. Now as I write snowing hard(in Radovljica). Winter gear not needed. Gaiters essential! Cheers

which route is safest for ski touring for someone who's never been to this mountain? I was looking to go straight up (at the rocks) but is there a better one???

no, that one is fine, the question is how much is plowed, though it's known that GG Bled plows there. From there less than an hour to the hut, otherwise the time extends a bit.

With that amount of snow there'll be a problem, even if plowed, meeting vehicles between Kranjska valley and Javornik plateau.

yes, and turning car at start. So head off from junction to Bled hut, from main road best on skis right away, otherwise you'll walk a bit but more fitness then , maybe we meet...
