Today I went half-running to Špik. The mountain running season is over and I don't need to train at full throttle anymore. So this was for enjoying the nice weather and taking photos.
I started at Erika, then towards Koča v Krnici. The road up there was washed away in places up to ten meters, elsewhere buried in scree. Detours have been made. But I didn't follow them, so I had to hop over rocks from one bank to the other of Pišnica. I ran really poorly and reached the hut after barely 3/4 of an hour.
It didn't go any faster further on. At the water spring the path was washed away and I searched for it for quite a while, then I found it up the Gruntovnica gully. The path later goes back into the gully. At one spot boulders blocked it and created a nice jump with I-II climbing. The rocks are extremely smooth and polished to marble color. A bypass for the jump probably exists on the left side.
The path then traverses the scree to the left. It really wasn't possible to run well on the rubble. Further to Gamsova špica towards Lipnica it's a good path for mountain running. From Lipnica to Špik the path is slightly exposed and running is not possible again.
I descended through Kačji graben. On scree it goes really fast. But mountain running shoes get badly destroyed. I certainly wouldn't have gone if I didn't know it's the last run with them.
Below the scree there's still a super running path for a while. Then the path goes onto slippery rocks, where it's annoying again.
To the car I descended through the forest via Rušev graben and looked for boletus (found none) to partly avoid the destroyed road below.
Nice day and interesting trip in the opposite direction from last time: http://bojanambrozic.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!ACD975034630F7FE!1676.entry
CONCLUSION
Unfortunately, I don't recommend Špik to mountain runners as a destination due to the gravelly paths.
Best regards,
Bojan
