In February I hiked the Dramelj mountain trail and thus got to know the landscape and vibe between Žička kartuzija and Dramlje...

Since I wanted to explore the area a bit further west from Žička kartuzija towards Vojnik, St. Thomas above Vojnik was of course a logical and reasonable choice...

Unlike the Dramelj trail I decided for MTB version and started yesterday on Sunday directly from home in Poljčane. To Žička kartuzija it was of course the warming asphalt classic... Above Žička kartuzija things got a bit more serious - ascent to Sojek and then to Stare Slemene, where I reached the highest point of the trail 597 m.a.s.l.. Then descent to Spodnje Slemene, where the trail branches off from the Dramelj mountain trail towards St. Thomas. Then mix of macadam, forest paths, singletrack... and after good two hours of easy riding I reached St. Thomas. View of the church exterior and surroundings and refreshment at the mountain hut and then return home. On the way back spring showers practically showered me non-stop. Total just under 60 km and a bit over 1000 vertical meters. Elevations mainly on the Žička kartuzija - St. Thomas - Žička kartuzija route...

Žička kartuzija is a fairly visited cycling destination mainly due to the easy ascent from Žič along the Žičnica stream but the surroundings definitely offer more...

On the return on Sunday 18.03.2012 from the activity Po poteh Vinske gore a short walk from the center of Vojnik along part of the GUMP educational trail and part of the mountain trail to St. Thomas above Vojnik above the church of St. Florian and St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows...

Into the world of Drameljsko/Vojniško hills. One concrete hiking after seven years and a few months. From Dramlje settlement to Sv. Tomaž above Vojnik. And back. Quite solid cross-section of the area a bit more west between Celjsko hills and Konjiška gora north above Dramlje...Path mostly dry, some wet muddy sections and also frozen in northern exposures. Clear, at the end more clouds than clear. Temperature a bit above zero.
