Last night's view of the camera at Kredarica (before sunset) showed some new snow, forecasters promised a nice day and the decision was made.
The weaker half of ''mountain goat'' (i.e. billy goat) headed to Stenar.
Snow starts a bit above the jump, in the morning it was nicely frozen and didn't sink. Ideal conditions for ski touring - there were quite a few - all rushing towards Križ.
Fresh snow starts somewhere above 2200 m, below the notch itself it was wind-blown and extremely hard. Without ice axe, crampons and helmet, you can't go. There were several degrees below zero, so hands suffered mostly (gloves clearly in the backpack).
On the western side though sun, warm and pure untouched snowy whiteness.
Traversing the slope to the summit despite new snow (cca. 10 cm) caused no problems, but much more on the descent, when nasty balls formed on crampons (new snow didn't bond with old!).
At the top though ... no need to talk ... let the pictures speak.

Wonderful shots immediately tempted me to go. Really beautiful pictures, weather was perfect too. As you wrote, experience and courage that's it and may it last long. Mountain greetings.

Thanks for the kind words and ratings - but I'd like to say (regarding courage) that Stenar is one of the easier and technically undemanding accessible mountains. This year there were quite a few mountaineers at the top (logbook) and many of them skied down through St. vratca to Vrata valley.
Of course under favorable snow and weather conditions and with good physical fitness.

Interested in the difficulty level of the route to Stenar via Stenarska vratca? Which route can it be compared to and what are the current conditions on the path?

Up there it's still winter, and on Maret's invitation we head out and use the nice weather to visit Stenar. Morning from Vrata along the normal route towards Škrlatica, where at 1500m snow cover starts, we equip with winter gear. The sun greets us right at the junction, right to Škrlatica, we straight towards Stenarska vratca. The base is such that it holds in places, sinks in others. To the top of Stenarska vratca nice steps have been made, from vratca to Stenar summit the base is excellent, summit day for gods. Descent towards Sovatna, all from first jump below all good, below rotten snow avalanches and little rodeo, at forest edge dry all to Vrata. Conditions are current and will now change day by day, ...
