Wednesday 28.3.2018, ski touring descent

Today's trip was a real ski touring adventure. On the way up, almost to the hut, I went where you usually don't walk and I warmly advise against this path, at least with skis and in snow, on bare ground there wouldn't be major problems. From the hut onwards, the easy path was turned into a more demanding one by fog, at least regarding orientation, the descent from the top was a real trail-following feat in the upper part. There's a huge amount of snow in these areas and it's snowing again these days, so descent will be possible for a long time. The hut is open, so thirst and hunger are taken care of on the way. Since the starting point isn't right around the first bend, it's sensible to wait for nice weather and then hit the trail. I simply couldn't stand all this rain anymore and took it in less nice weather smile

Friday, 8.2.2019 (ski touring descent)

Start at the parking lot a bit further from St. Benedict's church, from there via shortcut and road to the hut and onwards to the top. Lots of snow, very good conditions for skiing. The weather was very favorable to us, no wind, which often happens here. Winklerer hut is open, we just passed by as we had enough of our own goodies with us. It did snow here on Sunday too, but since they regularly plow the road to the starting point and the mountain is such that the slopes are fairly safe from avalanches soon after snowfall, conditions these days can't be much different from what we had. Great day, highly recommend, also nice with snowshoes smile

Sunday, 29.9.2019, Schwarzkofel and Straßkopf

This time we started at Roaner Alm alpine pasture, accessible by gravel road from Iselsberg Pass. Toll is 4€/day, parking meter by the road accepts only coins. The path led us to Schwarzkofelsee lake, from there we climbed to Schwarzkofel and then continued to Straßkopf. Weather during the tour was a bit mixed, so we missed out on really nice views, but still saw quite a bit. We descended almost past Winklerner Hütte hut, almost because our path turned towards the start a few minutes above it. Larches are still green, when they turn golden it can be fairy-tale like wink
