... Now that there's lots of snow everywhere, this short but pleasant trip will come in handy. Past houses in Begunje and along the walking path past Plečnik's pavilions. Can start at recreation center Krpin too. Then up the ski slope and soon at St. Peter's chapel. A bit further is Sankaška hut. In nice weather wonderful views from the top. Paths get trodden quickly even in snow. Lots of locals climb to Sankaška hut every day. nasmeh

Trip to St. Peter above Begunje is really suitable also for families with small children. At Krpan ski slope right now the path is practically destroyed - past storms completely tore it up, so it's better to go from the guesthouse - nice log cabin with playground for children - along the asphalt and after about fifteen minutes a sign directs us left to the forest path - which the water disaster partially damaged too - which brings us to St. Martin chapel. Under the chapel there's still a small high-mountain farm. The marked path further leads to Sankaška hut.

Plenty of nice spots along the path by the ski slope.

The path along the ski slope is very churned up.

Warnings about mountain flowers were not forgotten either.

St. Peter's church dates from the 16th century.

The interior of the church is beautifully painted and excellently preserved.

Below the church is an ancient small high-alpine farm.

Here is also a take-off site for paragliders,

Just five minutes ahead is the beautiful Sankaška hut.

Velkavrh, everything holds except names. Ski slope and guesthouse below it is Krpin, not Krpan, chapel is dedicated to Saint Peter nasmeh

This is our "house" hill and when with daughters we're not up for a longer tour, we just go to Peter.

From where is the path damaged? Only that part above ski slope or already before? Is it recommended to go from Krpin straight along the road?

Path is heavily damaged next to ski slope, further not, so I preferred to return on road.

....Along forest paths to St. Peter.... Past fire station to signpost and at last house left across meadow and already on little path crossing cart track. Soon plague monument appears. In half hour at chapel, then to Sankaška. At Mrs. Milka's farm daffodils are blooming... nasmeh

Back always on another path, there are lots of them. nasmeh

... Morning walk to St. Peter. Paths quite muddy, horses and cows grazing on meadows, not sure about bull. Warning that livestock on pasture. Sankaška hut closed, views nice...

Today a morning walk to St. Peter above Begunje. First time on the marked path starting on the pasture above Plečnik chapel. Currently very muddy. You reach the wonderful renovated chapel and then straight across the farmyard to the churchlet.

Today unexpected, but with lots of enjoyment at St. Peter. Path starts from behind Plečnik chapel and is almost fully dry, a bit muddy near the top. Return to firehouse is slightly frozen in spots but doable even with kids. From churchlet to Sankaški home path is a bit frozen, can go along the edge on leaves. On path from Krpin up I saw people walking with crampons. mežikanje

The path past Krpin inn is very muddy. Road still in snow that's slippery. Can walk along edge. At hunting hut a bit beyond Sankaška hut nice to sit and enjoy views. nasmeh

St. Peter via climbing wall....
From Krpin by ski slope or Trim trail to top of ski slope. Then left, well marked path. Climbing wall has all big ones have, short but fun. nasmeh

After the end of the moratorium on hard efforts due to some medical procedure, I figured Smokuški vrh suitable for a start, not too demanding and can scout for later ventures. Locals surely have seen beauties of north Ljubljana Basin with Lake Bled and know shortcuts, newcomers usually "panorama traverse" from Begunje or Krpin to St. Peter then Sankaška hut (closed Mon-Tue so can see it "Gorenjska style" velik nasmeh

from best view table), another at hunting hut then to Smokuški vrh or official Vrhu Peči. Path unremarkable (no expected mud), except last unmarked part, on maPZS straight line not matching reality.

On return paid more attention to St. Peter church which imo appeals more than "rival" Jamnik (visible other basin side left of big quarry) and while hopping around with camera Mrs. Minka from former sacristy by church accosted me. She knew I'm not local, asked how I like it, intro her poetry/writing, deemed me honest enough velik nasmeh

to lend church key. Indeed interesting frescoes inside. Don't know what it shows, visitor book entries 1-2/week mostly foreign langs. Interested can find my real name there whence forum nick.

Key opens south side door via short stairs from sacristy, works like apt block common entry. Turn key moves latch that auto returns.

Church outside/views (imo vs higher more "warm-up") well photoed/posted so only interiors here. If seem odd, accidentally RAW only in church (pros know), Lightroom/clones not mastered yet...
