Today on a nice sunny Sunday, 3rd March, I went up to Sveti Urban-597m above Maribor. The trail starts in the center of Kamnica near Maribor, past the church, roundabout in the direction of Rošpoh. After a good 50m left as directed by the signpost. The trail is muddy, partially also covered with snow (sometimes ice), so very slippery in the morning. The trail is not marked with markers like we're used to on other hiking trails; one has to follow only the signs: upside-down triangle with letter T in the middle or inscription TRIM. But it is also well-trodden so no trouble following it. Today a real crowd on the trail, view rather so-so despite clear weather. To the top I needed a good hour and a half, descended the same trail. I set a hiking step into the world of Koban for a circular activity and somewhere the main point was St. Urban. Start at Three Ponds - city park Maribor and on partially snowy and muddy trails via Počehova and Rošpoh to St. Urban. From there some ,,probing,, of terrain towards Gaj above Maribor but nothing obligatory. I was at point Nabašec, short continuation on asphalt to Gaj and some descent via Perkova graba. Then return to Urban and descent on hiking trail to Rošpoh-Kamnica. From Kamnica return via Vineyards in the hinterland of Maribor and finish at three ponds. Weather cloudy and cold northeast wind. Total 28 kilometers and a bit less than a thousand elevation gain...

Sveti Urban is certainly an interesting point. For quite some time I planned the activity but somehow mežikanje ,,waited,, , until someone from Maribor decided for the trail and the right decision was that of respected colleague Pohodnik38. From a distance I would add that there are still quite a few trails to Urban and of course Urban is excellent entry point to the wider world of Koban. Trail start from Maribor city park is also somewhere in broader Slovenian scale the most mežikanje ,,urban,, start of a hiking trail in Slovenia - practically in the very center of the second largest city in Slovenia. From what I saw from Maribor the trail to Urban is not exactly besieged while from somewhat closer Kamnica much more visited. Of course in this area first and more ,,IN,, choice is Pohorje but still the somewhat lower world of Koban above the left bank of Drava ,,hides,, many positive surprises and beauties. Regards

Today again to Urban because the weather lately is more miserable, spring just won't come. So no point going farther in such; it will wait for nicer days.
Start as usual at Kamnica....plenty of space for parking....1

Today's rainy day deterred me from going farther. So I chose St Urban and it was the right decision... even some sun shone through torn clouds.

Today, according to the weather forecast, I rather went straight to the nearby Sveti Urban above Maribor. In the morning, of course, an excellent day without a cloud in the sky and hot; now at the time of writing this, already dark clouds behind Pohorje. The done trail was quite excellent and nice; after a long time again to visit some nearby hill, more in the field report below.

Saturday, 15.08.2015 holiday and from Maribor hiking to Sveti Urban above Maribor and back. Start on right bank of Drava, through city center, city park/three ponds and on marked hiking trail across Kozjak the path led....On return still addition - Samotni bor above Maribor for better impression...Trails dry, hot it was...mežikanjeshowers and thunderstorms were late. Midday was not the best choice because this area is relatively open...Anyway, nasmehit was pleasant...

Because mostly everywhere more gloomy weather I rather went for conditioning trekking to St Urban. On the trail accumulated nice 10km and 463m elevation difference.

From yesterday's trip to the 'city' viewpoint. On the path all possible ground forms, from mud to frozen snow. Compacted snow cover is above 500m.
