To Kredarica via Triglav Lakes

Hi!

In summer we'll traditionally go to Triglav and we're looking for a longer combination of this route, specifically the idea came up that the tour would include Triglav Lakes, we must get to Kredarica for sure, but not over Triglav, because we go to Triglav from Kredarica the next day.

Now I'm interested in two things. First, as I've read somewhere, how is the path from Planika to Kredarica? Is the one under Mali Triglav really closed and also dangerous and advised against? What are other variants?
What about the whole route in general? Are there many climbing sections to Planika?

Secondly, if the option exists, I'm interested in the length of this route and if it's doable in one day? We normally have a normal pace, so we achieve about 2/3 of the times on timetables and therefore we'd rather do this as a longer tour and see more, so we don't arrive at Kredarica already at three in the afternoon and then up there there's nothing to do.

Thanks for answers and LP!

The tour probably from Savica over Triglav Lakes is long 9-10 hours and requires a fit hiker. The path is long and not suitable for everyone to cross Triglav Lakes with the goal to Kredarica, especially if in the group there are people with less fitness. In between also need to count on completely stable weather.
The path itself in summer on the entire route presents no special obstacles except Komarča, except snowfield in the basin between Planika and Kredarica. Paths are all passable and this one too, however up here sometimes smells unpleasantly, especially only in summer - septic tank.
If you sleep in between at one of the huts, it is enough for visiting nearby hills. E.g. Kanjavec from Prehodavci, Šmarjeta glava above Dolič, Vršac above Zadnjica, Veliko špičje, Zaplanja at Morbegni.

Tour from valley is very long approx. as viharnik described. Path drags on (I myself suffered real torment on this path) so if not well prepared I don't recommend this path in one day. Second day you'll also have very long path if you choose Kredarica-Triglav-Dolič-Triglav Lakes-Savica (approx. 9h) so personally I recommend 3 day variant with overnight in Zasavska hut or Tržaška hut. Path also quite demanding (from Planika to Kredarica, from Kredarica to Triglav, descent to Dolič and path over Komarča). If path from Planika to Kredarica closed another variant also to go from Planika to Konjsko sedlo and then directly to Kredarica (from Planika approx. 2h). This path is considerably longer than the one going under Mali Triglav.

For descent we planned Pokljuka, so we'd also have cars parked nearby and no major logistical issues.

I've also thought about three-day tour and descent to Konjsko sedlo and then to Kredarica, which would be fully feasible in two days.

Thanks for advice!nasmeh

If first day sleep at Planika and second day go over Triglav to Pokljuka it could be done in 2 days. This tour wouldn't be too bad. Savica-Planika 8 hours. Second day: Planika-Konjsko sedlo-Kredarica-Planika-Pokljuka 7 to 8 hours. Or go from Planika directly to Triglav and back over Kredarica and save the detour over Konjsko sedlo and shorten tour by approx. 1 hour.

But if you want to sleep at Kredarica then first day you have very big chunk second day "only" around 6 hours.

I'm a bit in doubt about the tradition, even more about the advice to go from Planika down to Konjsko sedlo and then back up to Kredarica, why not directly from Planika over Štapce to Kredarica? Triglav and Triglav Lakes are quite far apart and it doesn't make sense to connect them into a two-day tour. Around Triglav there are plenty of options for hiking, of course you need to know them. And those who traditionally go to Triglav surely know something.

I suggest one variant that my buddy and I walked in 2007:
Friday afternoon start in Vrata at Aljažev dom. Start at half past four in the afternoon. We chose Tominšek's path for ascent. Our goal was Staničev dom. We arrived at Stanič a bit after 8 in the evening. Overnight at Staničeva hut. The path is quite steep but the fastest from the valley. Suitable for average hiker.
Saturday morning start at half past seven and in less than an hour arrive at Kredarica. Continue to Triglav which we reach in about an hour (some crowd). Continue to Tržaška koča at Dolič which takes us about an hour and fifteen minutes. After a short break we decide, instead of over Hribarice (which was the original plan) to climb also Kanjavec which takes us an hour and a half. Now to the hut at Prehodavci, where we are in a good hour. Overnight there. Goal reached around 4 pm.
Sunday we leave around eight. First towards Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih which takes about an hour and a half. We continued towards Komna, because we had enough time, initially planned Komarča. In about two and a half hours to Komna. Then down to the valley to Savica, in about an hour and a half.
Triglav traverse thus completed.
It was a pleasant tour. I think every average hiker can manage it.

Last year me and Johanček went like this:
Planina Blato - Krstenica - Velo polje (Vodnikov dom) - Kredarica - Triglav - Dolič - Hribarce - Dolina Sedmerih - Štapce - Planina Jezero - Planina Blato.

We overnighted twice, at Kredarica and at Sedmerih. First day we hiked to Kredarica, second day over Triglav past Dolič to Sedmerih, third day over Štapce past Planina Jezero to start. Daily we hiked about 7 hours, except the last day we were picking a lot and dragging slowly. Nowhere we were in a hurry. We had nice weather, views were wonderful. I liked the tour because start and end are at the same place.
