To the mountains with children

We're going to Kranjska Gora for a few days. The kids, 5 and 7 years old, haven't been in the mountains yet. We're not fit, we only have better sports shoes, we respect the mountains and we certainly don't intend to climb into the mountains without experience and gear. Can someone suggest where to take the children so they feel the beauties of the mountains without climbing into danger due to inexperience? Thanks. Primorska ribica

A nice, not too long and not too strenuous trip is to Peč - Tromeja.
You can take the chairlift to Vitranc and from there hike to "conquer" the nearby peak Ciprnik.

Nearby you have a nice trip from Martuljek to planina Jasenje (Ing's hut).

A nice walk is also to the hut in Krnica.

All route descriptions on Hribi.net.

A classic for kids is the trip from Vršič to Sleme (there's that "puddle" where Jalovec is viewed on calendars and postcards), around larch woods.nasmeh

You can also walk to Tamar, or see Zelenci...

For little ones the Peričnik waterfall is interesting. They will enjoy it when they walk a bit wet under the waterfall. To the top of the waterfall no need to take them, it's already dangerous. Otherwise a five-year-old can already walk quite a bit e.g. 1 hour (by descriptions), but only if he has motivation all the time. For the conquered goal a reward like Kinder egg etc. is welcome.

Yeah and Kekec's land. Cipernik is a bit too demanding, at least I think. Srednji vrh, cows sheep... a bit further also marmots. Nice wandering to you. Tanja

Definitely agree with the previous one higher up who suggested Sleme and Tamar with appropriate motivation and some game while walking. For example car, toy, fruit on a,b,c....

I have three children and all of them have been walking in mountains and hills ever since they left diapers. The mountain goblin always brought them chocolate, which the husband placed a bit before us under some rock or tree, mostly at the top or just below the summit. Now they demand only some schnapps or sour milk, which is available in almost every hut. I recommend the books: With children to the mountains and Fairy tale paths of Slovenia. These are books that are not cheap, though, and you can borrow them from the library; it's best to have them at home, as they present hills all over Slovenia. We went through them in a few years. We always carried with us and still do, even though my children are now teenagers, a notebook with hard
covers, into which we always wrote the height, the name of the hill, stamped it, and always took photos at the top. At the top we always pick a smaller interesting stone, write on it where it's from and the altitude. I wish you many pleasant trips and that you lay the mountains as nicely as possible into the cradle for your children-nasmeh

I recommend the hut in Krnica and the hut in Tamar. Nice easy path that runs along a forest road.

Pokljuka - Lipanca, if the snow is suitable for walking, i.e. not icy.
Or Križna gora above Škofja Loka, Sv. Jakob above Katarina...
I almost forgot, the most beautiful for me in winter is Velika Planina, from Kranjski Rak suitable access also for a child.
Good luck!

To Nanos from farm Abram, to Vremščica, to Slavnik, to Kokoš, to Kucelj, to Modrasovec.... most of these hills are in the warmer part of Slovenia, everywhere nice view to the sea, and most often not heavily snow-covered or not at all.nasmeh

Look at the book "With children to the mountains-family trips", written by Urška and Andrej Stritar, published by Sidarta. Very nice book!

Now when snow has fallen, I recommend sledding from Tromeja, Vogar, home under Storžič or Ljubelj.

You can also head to the mountains with us:
Dear hikers,
in PD REGA LOG in 2013 we are starting FAMILY MOUNTAIN TRIPS. Every month besides regular trips we will organize trips aimed at families.
We live in a time that relentlessly demands fast pace and rush from us, so we too often don't take proper time in the family for joint activities. In PD REGA LOG we have set the goal to attract as many families as possible, parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, to a joint activity that unites all family members – hiking. Adults will take time to "unplug" from work duties, pull kids from in front of TV and computers, also ensure exercise in fresh air, discover something new and learn something. We have prepared eleven interesting trips (trip plan attached), suitable for participants from age five up. We will enrich the trips with additional activities (workshops, museum visits, events,…), so our members will head to new paths with even greater joy.
Welcome also all individuals who want to join us.
On the trips our REGA and MOUNTAIN GNOME will accompany us, surprising children with gifts at the highest points of the trips.

WELCOME TO PD REGA TRIPS!
