We've got another fantastic tour behind us, which we managed to complete yesterday in the area of Italian Sappada. The weather wasn't really on our side but it could have been much worse according to the forecast. We start in the fairy-tale village of Cima Sappada, drive through Sappada and a few more km to the gallery, right after it we turn right over the bridge into the Val Visdente valley. The path climbs pretty steeply for about 4km at the start then levels out almost completely. Up to here and a bit further it's all asphalt. At the first major intersection we turn left and start climbing towards the first alp Dignas(1676m). From the alp we continue a bit further to the path junction and keep right, left goes the path to saddle Dignas. Here starts the fantastic ridge traverse, which is over 10km long and takes us past seven alps also over 2000m altitude. All the way we ride on nice gravel path. From alp Chiastelin to alp Antola we rode on fantastic singletrack. Then again gravel to alp Chivion at which we go straight slightly uphill into the forest. The right path that descends leads back to the valley. After a few meters through the forest we reach a clearing and descend off-trail to the lower edge of the forest, where there's a sign for hut Sorgenti del Piave, which is also our next goal. Here a steep forest path descends to the stream, we cross it and after some time we reach a path junction where we turn left. Here we had to carry the bike a bit too. When we get to the forest a mule track starts that brings us in 18 nice hairpins to hut Sorgenti del Piave below Monte Peralbo, where the Piave river also originates. From there followed a descent on narrow steep asphalted path to Cima Sappada. Great tour, which would be even much nicer with good weather especially more scenic.
