Trekking pole swap under Kočna
|
| nevi5. 09. 2011 19:16:36 |
Yesterday my husband and I left our poles on the path from Češka koča to Kočna at the first pegs. There were already some there then. On return one pair of ours was missing, the previous ones were still there. We took them and hope someone mistakenly took ours instead of theirs. Hope they read this page and we can arrange a swap.

Probably yours were better and the "honest" lucky guy "accidentally" took the best!!!!If I'm wrong I apologize for the unintentional mix-up

Yes, I think they were really better. Still I have a little hope it was a mistake.

@nevi, hard to believe you'll get them back. I myself about a month ago stowed my poles before entering Kopiščarjevo on Prisojnik, thinking they'd wait for me on return. It was clear I stowed them not forgotten. Sadly they didn't wait. They went with someone else over the wall. Let them have them, if they need to steal to walk easier in mountains. Same day the keeper at Tičarca gave me others.

I don't know what lately people are playing with these poles, everything lies on the ground, oh people, pack them in your backpack, don't know, is it really that hard...

I thought people leave poles around out of friendliness so someone else takes them. I understand if they are worn out, ragged to the end, or the color combo no longer suits because doesn't match new clothes, and time for new poles, probably better to leave them in mountains on busier path, usually such depots form under some wall, than throw in trash. Maybe useful to someone.

Gregor, it was really nice to see this path so detailed again. We photographed very little. We were at the top just a bit before you. As for poles - the thief will fall into our hands someday. Slovenia is small. From now on we'll carry poles in the backpack.

Hiking in the mountains is modern. For many it's just a sport. Almost everyone engages in sport and so the population of people in the mountains is almost the same as everywhere.

Sadly, I agree with Nevi. Nowadays every primitive goes to the mountains so the hiker culture is low. Like in the valley, now in the hills too you have to watch who you talk to, what you say or if you accidentally act 'weird' and become a mockery target or warn someone of a deficiency and risk ridicule or 'mind your own business!' or stay quiet and leave the person ignorant or in danger. Yes, add all we've talked about: mountain pollution, irresponsible dog owners, blasting music, hut rowdiness,... Almost no difference between valley and mountains. Even more so now that stealing has started. We can't say anymore: no stealing in the hills. Yes, we understand: leaving poles and backpacks before hard parts is a custom abroad too (saw e.g. on Ankogel saddle before last ridge full of poles and two backpacks). But there maybe you can rely that your gear waits. Really sad! I know good hikers prevail but that (small?) % makes it so.

My cousin left her sunglasses on the toilet at one pasture... After 15 minutes she remembered, went back... and the sunglasses were gone... Really sad.

A month ago in an Austrian hut, a forgotten camera and sunglasses on the table at the entrance. Though many people passed by, both remained untouched. Here they would probably have grown legs or gotten a new owner sooner.

On 15.10 I went with the kids to Špik hude police. On the parking lot I put Nokia x6 on the car roof so it could find the GPS signal and forgot it. Just before the top I remembered it and said goodbye to it, but returning Austrians who parked together with us told them about it and asked them to check if it was still there. You won't believe it, the lady found it on the roof, put it in a bag and left it in a safe place. Parking was full, lots of people. I somewhat regained hope in good people. Ladko

Nice story, ladko. I lost my glove yesterday and in 15 minutes it was already hanging on the branch.
