Can anyone recommend a trip up to 2 hours preferably somewhere in the Julian Alps with a hut at the end or midway and nice views? A four-year-old child is coming with us. We'd go sometime in September. Best, Marja

E.g.: - Hut at Planina pri Jezeru, you can start at Planina Blato; - Slemenova Špica (Sleme), start at Vršič (no hut at Sleme actually, but you have them at Vršič).

Hello! We'll take the kids to the mountains for the first time (3.5 yrs). The girls like to walk, but the tour shouldn't be "too demanding". Thanks for the reply.

For such small children total walking time up to three hours is suitable, as they tire much earlier than adult hikers. Children are otherwise very open to perceiving nature due to mental purity and after a few tours they already manage quite well on paths with motor skills and terrain. At the beginning of mountain introduction though we gradually teach children the rules of mountain landscape, from weather, walking and resting method, protection from sun and dehydration, nutrition, tour layout, equipment, traps on different terrains, behavior in bad weather. Tours should be easy mid-mountain type with undemanding relief. Polhograjci are a good choice for start, where we find very easy paths and also steeper, harder ones. Can go from hamlet Žlebe over Sv. Marjeta to Katarina or Žlebe, Ravanški grič, Sv. Jakob. To Toško čelo. Rašica. Grad Smlednik. Gobavica near Mengiš. Peaks around Rakitna etc, depending where your home is.

Mostly agree with Viharnik. If you're at home closer or in Gorenjska, suggestions like -Roblekov dom (I got there when I was 2.5 years old), if that's too far, you can stop at Planinica already. -Blejska hut at Lipanci, if kids can, extend to Mrežc -Sveti Peter above Begunje (this is easier, less than one-hour thing) -Martuljški waterfalls (very attractive for kids, who are always fascinated by waterfalls) -Peričnik waterfall and Vrata valley And more and more...
