Trnovo Forest (Sinji vrh, Modrasovec)

In the afternoon, the weather forecast towards Primorska showed afternoon clearings, so I drove via Godovič and Črni vrh to the Trnovska plateau.
I started at the junction above Gozd at 819m. From there, I climbed in a good half hour to the prominent, high Sinji vrh 1002m. Under the hill is an idyllic T.K. in wonderful nature and the peace of friendly locals. Here, meetings of closed groups and various seminars also take place. Real idyll! On foot, I hopped to the otherwise panoramic summit when there was no fog. The initial ascent to it was more strenuous without a start warm-up. Further, I rode along the main road; in between, it cleared nicely and the sun warmed nicely. The landscape is wonderful, the air for the lungs very light compared to Gorenjska, huts and gardens tended with the soul of the plateau dwellers. At Predmeja, I stopped at a distant friend, as due to our fathers' friendship we camped by the sea every year together. Kristjan, very happy with my visit, treated me to prosciutto, cheese, and home-made bread. The view from the house reaches all the way to Ajdovščina where he lived before. There is plenty of snow here and it ends good 100m lower, there at 800m. Already late, I headed further to Mali lazni and turned left for Čaven. Before the hut, I took my own path previously to the right and literally got lost in the labyrinth of forest roads reminding of Modrases wrapped in all shapes. Thunder started and heavy hail poured. I parked under a spruce and it was good that I had the bivvy bag with me too and helmet on my head. It was like doomsday! After the storm, I rode on white hail-covered paths. I didn't find Čaven home, let alone Modrasovec. Near this peak of the western plateau there are full of other peaks and fog made impenetrable terrain too. So at some U junction on the map I finally found my location and directed the right path from the enchanted circle. After long km I broke through past Praprot 1374m to Preval 1080m and on to Avška lazna and Mala lazna. There I joined the main road to Turški klanec and already late at 6 pm descended to the still distant start. In between, right on the bike while riding, I crunched an apple and Frutabela from hunger. Originally, I planned a circular tour along the northern edge of the plateau over Tisovec, which was an unfeasible morsel in the given circumstances and late start. Some stats; dist. 56km (Sinji vrh +5km), effective ride time 3h49min, avg. spd. 14.7 km/h.
