3rd Hike along Slak's Trail -Novo mesto - Trška Hill

The hiking trail along Slak's Path is set up in memory of the Dolenjska virtuoso on the diatonic button accordion and legend of folk entertainment music Lojze Slak.

Trail length: 8 km

PROGRAM: 8.30 -arrival (exit from highway Novo mesto - east)
and parking at Bajnof under Trška Hill, Sevno 13, Novo mesto -
Grm Novo mesto - Center for Biotechnology and Tourism
9.30 - start of hike
11.00 - program at the monument to Lojze Slak
14.30 - arrival at finish (Bajnof) and 8th REVIEW OF ACCORDION

Trška Hill is one of the most famous Slovenian wine hills, where on its southern slope there are the most wine cellars in the world and where they produce excellent cviček. The northern slope is forested. The top of Trška Hill is adorned by the pilgrimage church of Mary's Birth, which is already mentioned in 1135 together with the wine court (Weinhoff) and nearby vineyards in his donation to Stična monastery by Aquileian patriarch Peregrin. At the foot of Trška Hill there is an extensive complex of the Grm Agricultural School together with the ampelographic vineyard. Trška Hill offers a paradisiacal view in all directions, to Gorjanci, towards Kočevski Rog and Krka Valley, right below it lies Novo mesto, embraced by the green emerald Krka. Near Trška Hill are castles Hmeljnik, Stari grad and Otočec. Among the vineyards and wine cellars on Trška Hill reigns a special poetic spirit that inspired even such wine cellar owners as composer Marjan Kozina, virtuosos of folk entertainment music Lojze Slak, Henrik Burkat –Henček, Franc Potočar and many others. At the top of Trška Hill (428 m) next to the church of Mary's Birth, linden trees have been growing for centuries. The oldest and most powerful has a breast circumference of 830 centimeters. It is estimated to be over four hundred years old and is the thickest Dolenjska linden. It has a hollow trunk where a nice group of people can squeeze in, the bottom is artfully spread, at a height of three meters a lush green crown rises, in whose shade an ancient stone table awaits its visitors.

On Saturday a trip of 50 hikers into the unknown. The choice was super for me, as I hadn't walked these places yet, although the path was in mind...First stop at Karteljevo with the beekeeper who charmed us with beekeeping gear, story and treats. Then ascent to Hmeljnik castle, we didn't know hops used to grow here. Walk along nicely arranged wine cellars and vineyards in beautiful sunny weather. Locals hospitable, they took time along the way, chatted pleasantly and served a drop of ruja. By bus past Šmarješke toplice to tourist farm Lamovšek, the hostess prepared excellent lunch, good desserts and of course homemade wine...nice memory of beautiful Dolenjska and hospitable guide and singer Franči. And also music and cultural program by Nace and Stane.
