Turska gora via Žmavčarje

If I had slept one more hour yesterday morning, I would have enjoyed the view from the top of Turska g. and wouldn't have struggled across Male pode like a blind man.

The path via Žmavčarje is mostly fine, the first snowfield can be avoided in the gully by the wall, but the snowfield before exiting to Male pode (below the bivouac) is still quite large and hard, so without ice axe and crampons it doesn't go. The exit was hindered by extremely dense fog (visibility less than 5 m) but even without sense of orientation I wouldn't have had trouble finding the bivouac - the banging of the OPEN doors could be heard from afar!

I won't blame or judge the lovebirds who came to cuddle and admire the starry sky on Male pode from 23 to 24 May, as they (last) wrote in the book. There could have been someone after them who didn't sign in...

The fact is there's a huge amount of water in the porch (inner doors were also open), which is no wonder after the last rain. So I ask the next visitors who will ascend and return the same day past the bivouac to leave the doors open at that time (in good weather of course), so the bivouac dries out. Otherwise the same will happen as with the previous one which rotted from inside.

From the bivouac I headed right (not up), found passages with currently better visibility and joined the marked path along the ridge of Turska gora. The summit ridge is bare except some small snowfields that pose no problems. With crampons and ice axe the cap and winter jacket came in very handy, cold and strong wind took care that the fog cleared up when I was already descending.

The bent metal plaque with the Grintovci silhouette is still on the bivouac notice wall, only the thermometer I once mounted is no longer there.

To the bivouac I think it's not hard to reach, just don't miss in the lower part, right?

Yesterday evening the decision was made that due to wet terrain (possible slip) instead of Turska gora we go to Vogel and then also to Rodica. Despite the change the trip was excellent, just windy a lot.

On Wednesday my colleague Feliks and I visited Turska gora approaching via Žmavčarje. Path without special features, we aired the bivouac, few visitors, but I'm wondering where the thunderstorm caught 5 hikers who were just after 12 o'clock right before entering TŽ, hope they reached the bivouac in time.

If someone is going to Turska gora via Žmavčarje I can say that snow starts somewhere at 1250 meters (in the forest)... it sinks in quite a bit. Above 1500 meters the sinking is less and crampons come into play nasmehFrom the bivouac to the gully the path is without special features.... towards the ridge be a bit careful due to windblown snow. I had no luck with the weather yesterday.... I started only at 15:30 due to work velik nasmeh
I had so much luck that the ridge was visible at moments :) , and even that only for a couple of seconds1
If Turska gora were 50 meters higher, I would admire the sunset2

I also went to Turska gora yesterday on New Year's Day. Plan was first only to bivouac but it was occupied and then with arrival of others it got even louder. So I rather continued the path and after assessing conditions which were favorable I ascended to Turska gora. There are some snowfields on the way but not really an obstacle; one can avoid them. It was really a fantastic day like not for a long time: peace and full enjoyment.

PICTURES AND personal impressions from the path

Kranjska Rinka (SW gully)-Križ-Turska (2.04.18)

Right at the exit from the forest I put on crampons, ice axe in hand. The ground was hard as concrete and I progressed well. The SW gully was also very good to Kranjska Rinka. From Križ I ascended to Turska gora. On descent the ground thankfully softened a bit. Conditions phenomenal, very few visitors except two guys who came over Turski žleb to Rinke.
