Hi Viharnik. Tomorrow I'd go towards Kofce and further. Do you know anything about the path from Matizovec?

Greetings! No data on the path from Matizovec to Kofce, but it's quite frequented and almost certainly trodden, if not already tracked by snowmobiles, which is very likely. After descent from Kofce to Ravne pri Beli peči at the junction, I noticed snowmobile tracks to the right towards Matizovec (another path). From Kofce to pl.Šija there are snowshoe tracks and my ski tracks. Further towards Pungrat no more hiker tracks. If going longer route, recommend snowshoes, as snow sinks a lot with walking, sometimes to the ground. In thawing it will be even longer and harder without skis or snowshoes.

Today under Veliki vrh - people 0, sun 0, heavy southern snow, pure fog 10/10. Still good for soul and fitness. The path is trodden to the top, but without skis or snowshoes hard, as it sinks to the knees in places.

Nice greeting, I also want to start with touring skiing; can someone advise what skis I need, bindings (which brands, size... where to get this gear, maybe cheaper abroad). I'm 180 cm tall, weight about 77 kg. Thanks for any advice

I'm 178 cm tall and weigh 84 kg, touring ski master advised ski length around 165 cm. Dynafit now 163 cm and proved excellent measure for all obstacles and snows. Due to considerable width, despite slightly shorter length, they hold well on surface in dry snow when skinning. Turning the track on ascents is child's play. Abroad cheaper until January than here, now almost reverse. But need to know that at end of season gear not available in desired sizes anymore. Generally as touring ski beginner I can say that this type of mountain activity, which apparently looks like carefree and joy, hides many dangers on the other side of the tour. One must activate all senses and knowledge in mountains on tours to carefully and wisely choose ascent and descent direction. In between check avalanche conditions, knowledge of terrain configuration possible pits, dangers, rocky chunks, specifics of descent in dense forest, when appropriate to go to forest, to road, to steep slope and knowledge of varieties and mastery of skiing on mentioned terrains. Not to mention use of avalanche gear, action when buried, ability for emergency bivouac etc. Myself without basic knowledge of movement in mountains, years of hiking experience, terrain knowledge which now comes in very handy, probably wouldn't take up this sport. And still need to improve and train in future.

Yesterday from Medvodje along the road to Zgornja Dolga njiva. On the road track of one car which I met higher on the way returning. Yellow Panda. On Zgornja Dolga njiva big drifts in places, in places blown to the ground. Towards Plešivec sinking a lot, so ended ascent and skied down to valley.

Join me on an adventure through the wonderful Karavanke. Start in picturesque Tržič (440 m), ride through the geological gem Dovžanovo soteska with its dramatic rock towers, then ascend to Taborniški dom Šija (1528 m) – the highest situated hut under the mighty Košuta mountain chain. Continue the path towards the Kofce mountain hut, where peaks line up like pearls on a necklace. Follows dynamic descent to Podljubelj and back to Tržič – perfect circle full of views, fresh air and mountain bike pleasures.
