Vajnež - Stol (circular route)

On Saturday we four hikers drove to Potoska pl., where we parked the car at the Urbas water intake. Since it was already half past seven, we hurried with the obligatory warm-up, put on our backpacks and headed on the unmarked path which is pleasant at the start, so we kept looking for possible chanterelles. Later the path starts climbing steeper, so we forgot about mushrooms and ground our knees hard and wiped sweat. After a good hour we are at the bivouac where we branch off, continue pathless across pastures full of loud sheep, cross the marked path and in three quarters of an hour we are at the top of M. vrha. Continue along the ridge, with wonderful views in half an hour at Vajnež where we also meet the first hikers. After a snack continue the path via Vajneževo sedlo and Potoskega stola to the top of Stola, which we conquer after an hour of walking. The summit wraps in mists, so quickly to Prešernova hut with hot tea. After an abundant snack it's hard to head to the valley, go via Zirovnska planina full of ascending hikers. A little before Valvazor light rain drizzles us, so the girls go to the hut, we two on the path to the car, where we refresh in the stream and off to
the goat at Valvazorja. Pleasant scenic circular tour for coming autumn days, we looped in seven hours. P.S. SORRY, BECAUSE I LET UNWRITTEN DESCRIPTION SLIP INTO THE POST, I'm a beginner.

Yesterday we went from Urbas to the bivouac and Mali vrh, from there nicely along the ridge to Vajnež, which has a beautiful blanket of green grass and flowers because the sheep grazed nicely on topvelik nasmeh. Since it was too little for us, we climbed via Potoški Stol to the king of the Karavanks, which had a cap on its head all daymrk pogled. On the return, a little rain wet us, but the warm sun at the bivouac on Belščica fixed it. Super hike, because you meet very few peoplenasmeh.

Last autumn my wife and I also walked the mentioned circular trail. We started at Valvasorjev dom, continued over Potoška planina, climbed up to the ridge and along it to Vajnež. Then over Potoški stol to Stol and Prešeren hut, from there descent down the southern slope over Zabreška and Žirovniška planina to the starting point. The tour is really nice, in late autumn time, practically all-day. We highly recommend it.

Hello, I'm interested if the trail from Potoška planina to the ridge, since it's mentioned as unmarked, is hard to find, or if there exists some other marked trail? Thanks for the reply.zadrega

If there's no fog, orientation is relatively easy.

So, the trail succeeded! Despite no marks from Potoška planina onwards, it's really not hard to find, because at the Urbas spring there's a sign for Belščica and it's best when you come out of the forest and the whole world opens up. Then past the sheep, of which there were endlessly many, over Vajnež and Potoški stol, where a cold wind started blowing and mists accompanied it, hiding and revealing the view of the neighboring peaks. Then the ascent to Stol and the mandatory stop at Prešeren hut, where the caretakers are incredible and all praise for them! Then the descent to Valvasorjev dom. Tadej, thanks again for the trail description, which is really nice and recommended! nasmeh

Today the above-described tour was done. The trail runs to Belščica planina through the forest, which is nice and there were no problems on the way. From the bivouac to the shepherd hut and further to Mali vrh the sun had already done its work. The snow was nicely sinking and soft, only on the drifts I tramped deeply (sometimes over the knees). I continued the trail always along the ridge, which proved to be the better option, since the ridge itself was more or less blown clear and almost snow-free. The snow was changing from minute to minute, so the walking was really unique. I continued to Stol and then along the Žirovniška path to Valvasor and then to Urbas. Quite a long tour, but worth the effort. Best, Andrej

I was up there two weeks ago. And I'll go again this year if I can manage. Once there's a bit of snow - of course no big avalanche danger. Nice pics. Judging by the pics, the morning won't be too bad if I go to Križevnik and Veliki vrh in the Kamnik mountains?

On Sunday to Stol and further to Vajnež. In between there was a slight deterioration, but the amount of precipitation was small, so I assume no significant changes on the path.

I see it's almost 4 years since I walked this loop. Then right in the middle of quite a sparse winter, this time as an intro to the winter season.
