Velika Planina - Midnight Mass

This year we'd like to go to midnight mass on Velika Planina. I'm interested in how the parking is in the quarry (Ušivec - pl.Kisovec intersection). If anyone went a few years ago: how is walking at night from that side, do more hikers go to Velika Planina, etc (if we were alone, the feeling would be unpleasant ...). The other alternative would be from Šimnovec via Zeleni rob. Please provide advice and tips.

Last year there was a real traffic infarction from Kranjski rak towards the quarry. The road was also icy and many got stuck on the road. On Velika planina itself it was blowing hard and there was thick fog. So you definitely won't go alone, it depends on the weather, but the problem is parking.

Best to go on foot from the valley, then no crowds. I go every year from Stahovice (Calcit) and this year too.

Maybe worth mentioning that this year they closed the chairlift on Velika Planina and you have to walk from Šimnovec to the top of Grdišč, which is no problem because the path is well trodden and packed by a snowcat (ratrak). I'd just recommend some hiking crampons, as the path is icy in places.

Only once was I persuaded by someone to go to midnight mass on Velika Planina. From Stahovica to Mala Planina it was OK, from Mala Planina onwards unbearable crowds, shouting drunks, fireworks and firecrackers. We got within only 100 m of the chapel. Disgusting!

Such antics bother me a bit too, but that doesn't shake my intention and pilgrimage to the chapel as thanks for all the safe steps in the mountains, air,... in the past year. We are different and we all go up with different intentions.!!
