wow, I knew it was someone who's no lightweight We followed you with our eyes almost to the top, pity my camera failed already at the parking lot, otherwise you'd surely be on the photos. Great that you showed up

Good that you didn't hear me; like a locomotive I was, and I was coughing too

While I was browsing these pages a bit, I noticed that some of you went past a small pond (bagi, Franci, Majda), but I don't know where to find it. Well, now it's probably snowed over, but still. Thanks in advance!

The small pond is a bit below the summit, but it was dry before the last precipitations.

I've mostly read the comments for Veliki Pršivec, but let me ask once more, are the cairns still in place? I guess you need to be quite careful, the path branches off at the Rjavina junction over Teme to the right, where there are no markers afterwards. We'd like to climb to the real summit. Can someone add what else to watch out for so we don't miss it. Thanks

Very nice. Wonderful views. We searched for the summit last year but didn't find it. Need to repeat.

Yesterday (Thursday, February 18th). On skis from Kurja vas along Krma and through Travna dolina past Mali Pršivec and further along the ridge to Veliki Pršivec. Had to park in Kurja vas, from where deceptive tractor tracks led just a few hundred meters and then ended without a turning area. A fairly frozen track, also a ski track at the same time, led past Lese and to the forest, where snow off the path also became compact. Similar conditions continued towards Vrtača, just that on the solid snow base mostly from old avalanche debris every meter of elevation had a bit more unbonded, dry snow. But the relatively shallow track on the otherwise thick snow cover reliably offered excellent conditions also for walking without skis. At Malo polje we turned right past the abandoned shepherd's hut, which is covered with snow up to the ridge (unless it collapsed since autumn when I was last there). Then straight up past the old signpost and further up the slope to quota 2020 from where we continued through the holey terrain to the summit of Veliki Pršivec. Back we went via Kravja dolina and approximately along the path that goes over Apnenica to Prgarca. Before Prgarca we even missed a bit once because we followed an old track whose author turned back above the steep slope above Travna dolina. So we did too . Around Pršivec at 2000m the snow is crusty, wind-packed, on the very summit there's a huge cornice. Lower down the south-facing slopes were dry in the morning and covered with a thin crust, in the afternoon they became completely refrozen. Above Prgarca, where evening shade caught us, the snow instantly became desperately crusty, skiing was demanding. Below Prgarca in shaded spots there was enough dry snow for satisfying skiing, even better on the forested slopes above Vrtača. And further on avalanche debris from Vrtača to the forest there was enough dry snow on the eroded slope for carefree turns. In the forest the snow was compact but skiable. From the forest edge and along the valley bottom past Lese and Kovinarska koča to Kurja vas we sped along the excellently frozen track / ski trail to Kurja vas (about 7 or 8 km) in a good half hour. Never so fast! Weather was splendid, freezing cold in the valley, but on sun-exposed spots we even sweated. Towards Kredarica there was a track and ski touring trail, one was made even over Bohinjska vrata. No new avalanches, just once I heard a rock flying over the south ridge of Rž. With warming in the coming days it will probably rumble again. Views from the summit fantastic, didn't meet a soul.

Thanks, Majda! But I forgot to mention: already at night we drove through the very dear-to-me Mojstrana. The small ski slope at the end of the village was brightly lit and operating. Queue for the lift, lots of skiers zigzagging down the slope, mostly kids and youth. I stopped the car. With Dolgostebelni we watched silently for several minutes and enjoyed the bustle and skiing tradition that people in these parts obviously remain faithfully attached to despite poor winters and other obstacles. The icing on the cake of a wonderful day!
