Veliki vrh in Begunjščica - Smokuški Plaz

With Franci, we ascended on skis from Tinčkova koča in Završnica valley via Smokuški plaz to Veliki vrh in the afternoon hours. Conditions for the ascent are spring-like, crusty snow, but nice. For hikers, the ascent is definitely recommended in early morning hours, when it doesn't sink much yet; in the afternoon, the snow is too soft. Crampons recommended (from conversation with two hikers)!!! In one week, almost a meter of snow melted, which we felt mainly while skiing; on the plaz itself, there are already some "patches" of scree. Conditions in the upper part excellent, in the middle heavily crusty and heavy snow, above Smokuška planina nice long turns possible. LP Andrej
