The isolated ridge of Vette Scabre is formed by three more pronounced peaks. We decided on the highest, western one. The description in Planinski vestnik 12/2014 inspired us to visit these really isolated mountains. We parked the car by Rabeljsko jezero, where the cannon is displayed; across the road, there is a rental for windsurf boards. Just 20 m east of this parking spot, the path starts, leading us steeply along the gurgling stream. Somewhere at an altitude a bit over 1300 m, we reach the water intake, where we crossed the stream (slippery). The continuation in the forest was harder; we lost the path several times but found it again. When we got above the tree line, we found ourselves in an idyllic cirque. Above the cirque reigns the Vette Scabre ridge. From the cirque, the rocky belly is nicely visible, along which paths lead to the peaks. The gully on the left side of this belly leads to the lower peak, the right gully to the highest. We chose the higher peak. The gully we hiked was quite collapsed. Higher up, we found some really old pitons in the rock; below the summit, we turned right and crawled onto grassy terrain overgrown with dwarf pines. To the ridge top, it is just a few minutes. At the top, we of course take time for the view towards the Kanin Mountains and High White Needle. We also check the continuation towards the summit, which is not so far but overgrown with dense dwarf pines everywhere. There are some traces of what could be called a path, but dwarf pines have overgrown it almost everywhere. To the summit, there are some smaller hills, between them rocky notches. This fight with dwarf pines took us quite some time, but at the top we were really glad for the nice views. Back the same way to the idyllic cirque; then we found the path leading towards the notch – Forc. delle Cenge, i.e., towards the notch between Vette Scabre and Visoka polica. We did not go right to the saddle, but took quite some time enjoying ourselves by the stream in the wonderful cirque below this saddle. Back along path 656 leading to Rablj, and somewhere at 1330 m altitude we turned onto the path we had ascended in the morning and returned to Rabeljsko jezero. The area we visited is really solitary, wild, and beautiful. Probably the chance of hitting some lottery win is higher than meeting another person here. Actually, it is quite right that paths to these peaks are not marked. Pictures: http://www.petersfoto.si or: http://www.petersfoto.si/thumbnails.php?album=datebrowse&date=2015-08-31
