Despite a two-hour drive from home it was worth visiting the newly opened via ferrata Mučevo. Colleague from Styria, me from Gorenjska, we meet in Mežica, then a few more km to the starting point. Already soon after entering the gorge, the view of the initial "E" makes you think. We exchanged glances and immediately knew that the combination of moisture and dirt won't bring anything good on incline over 90 degrees. We gear up and soon the suspicions confirm. But the soles held anyway, as the rock is nicely structured and didn't slide that much. Won't drag on, but both of us were impressed at the end; finger-licking good. Until now, at least for me the hardest via ferrata here was Sp. Plot, but since long time since I climbed it last, hard to judge now which is harder. Leave that to others, leaning towards Sp. Plot. Actually no comparison between the two via ferratas, as Sp. Plot is more on smooth slabs, rock on Mučevo via ferrata somewhat more structured and shoes grip well. Also some pegs at key spots. Personally like Mučevo better. 1.5 hour time seems quite inflated. We took lots of pics and didn't rush but got to top noticeably earlier. Rest let the pics say.. And nice that no crowds ever in the via ferrata And also, in wet for descent recommend at least 10-point crampons From my side - thumbs up!

If you continue the descent along the railway to Žerjav it's less slippery.

I believe it. Upon arriving at the railway without descent description the first dilemma, a bit lower at the three paths junction the second . We already wanted straight ahead, at the last moment spotted blue and red dot on the candelabrum, otherwise would go straight . That one, the right one, until we noticed the dot seemed to us the least likely .

Red/more demanding via ferrata is nicely routed, nicest section to me were slabs between both small bridges in gorge...Regarding grades...Entry D/E, slabs between bridges D, that ca. 10m jump right below summit sheer E...Overall very nice via ferrata which is also well made (materials ok)...To me shade easier than Sp.plot and harder than Gonžarjeva peč then long long nothing then Jerma'n..

Today I was on both, first red then blue. Red very interesting, entry morning a bit slippery as wall damp and somewhat muddy (shoe deposit), rest super, recommend full finger gloves as got quite a few blisters, via ferrata set handy too. Blue comparable to Lisco, just bit more muddy. For both dry weather recommended as approach has wet ground. Descent under power line could be problematic wet, very steep and path already very slippery. Red took me 50 min, blue 20 min, each knows own time, caution is never excessive.

Via ferrata super...Climbed red in ca...7 minutes...Grade (E) on last jump quite realistic...

Hello, I'm interested whether there's a path near the via ferrata start by which we descend back to the parking at the end? So part of the family hikes, we two the via ferrata. Thanks for the answer, A&K

Yes, there is. Descent from top leads right to parking where car is left. About 100m aside via ferrata starts. It's marked too.

Hello, tomorrow we'd climb, we're wondering if anyone was here today and how wet/slippery the wall is? Thanks for the answer.
