Via ferratas in Škocjan (Kanzianiberg, 795m)

On Sunday, 27.10.2013, after conquering Ostra peč/Mallestiger Mittagskogel (via Wasserfall Klettersteig), we went to Škocjan, where we climbed some short via ferratas.

The via ferratas in Škocjan are exceptionally well executed and interesting. They are designed so that you can exit multiple times if it seems too difficult. They also split into multiple directions at places, so you can choose among them where to continue. We tried all of them velik nasmeh
What I really like about these via ferratas is that there's a bit of everything, including walking over a bridge, ladders, walking on steel cables over the abyss ... something for everyone mežikanje

I recommend them to all who are not used to walking on climbing paths but want to try. They are excellent for learning to walk on secured climbing paths mežikanje

You can view pictures from Škocjan on the website of Planinsko društvo Matica Murska Sobota: http://www.mojalbum.com/pdmaticams/20131027-ferrate-v-skocjanu-kanzianiberg/pogled-na-plezalne-stene-v-skocjanu/21213484

If you go over Korensko sedlo before Beljak on the right, past Brnica to Finkenstein. Over Ljubelj then at the roundabout just before Drava towards Bistrica (Feistritz) and up the Rosental valley.
In the middle of the village Finkenstein (Bekštajn) there are signs directing you to the parking. The guidebook could sometimes be bought in the village, otherwise you can order it online.

You can do a loop, we always do it, over Korensko sedlo there and Ljubelj back.

Today first time in Škocjan. I've traversed most ferratas in the near and far surroundings but this one somehow escaped under the radar zmeden. So it was a surprise about the environment where they run and how they are routed so much bigger. Pure ten for artistic impression velik nasmeh. They transition from one to another, branch off, are completely independent, you go up one, down the other.

Most ferratas are category B and C, some especially the eastern ones flirt with D difficulty. That means slightly overhanging walls and minimal holds.

Today we climbed eleven and those aren't even all. Some parts of the wall are currently closed due to bird nesting so we didn't want to disturb their family life nasmeh.

Warmly recommend nasmeh.

How many climbing routes are there approximately? Is it worth going there for several days?

Thanks!

Visited again these really interesting rocks near Škocjan nasmeh. For me new is the zip line cable stretched between two adjacent rock masses with lots of air underfoot. Without a via ferrata set or at least HSM clip it will be hard to cross velik nasmeh.

The whole area besides the crags is also an excellent choice for not particularly demanding ferratists. All ferratas (B/C) worth the summit visit require a few pleasant hours of traversing. Definitely recommend nasmeh.

Škocjan climbing area, plenty for via ferrata climbers too1
For me the nicest intro starts right at the edge of the parking lot, far left of the hut2
The vias are well protected everywhere, holds and steps are at all important spots3
Random neighbor :) Of course he's a climber and took a completely different path from ours4
Part of the path where it's not immediately clear where to go next. Some brackets go vertically, but the right cable leads into the darkness5
This is the way, wouldn't praise the space between the walls6
And we continue...7
Immediately after exiting the first hole, we already crawl into the second8
Oops, shall I push a bit???9
Not really difficult, but not entirely easy either :)10
In the heart of the rocks11
Emerging from the depths like two cavers12
A bit more, a bit more...13
And we're already at the top...14
Weather on the peaks wasn't the best, but excellent here15
Diversion16
Can't see it here, but there's a huge drop underfoot17
Another caving one18
This via ferrata leads into the heart of the rocks through the narrowest gorges.19
Ufff, I managed to squeeze through20
Climbers climb in these rocks. The highest grade of the route I've seen is *6*21
Someone's shoe came off22
In Škocjan it's not easy to find all the via ferratas, especially if it's your first time23
Here and there some via ferrata reaches a good *C* difficulty, nothing harder24
Here the path is quite slippery due to unusually wet rock25
Via ferrata detail :)26

View of the villages28
Our random neighbor from the beginning is already climbing in another wall29

I used the bad weather to visit Kanzianiberg and must say after a few (four) hours of ferrata I was grinning. Really great.

Recommend (but not when wet!):

On the second day due to bad weather forecast we climbed in Kanzianiberg. The ferratas are very diverse and all in pleasant shade in the morning. The climbing routes were much more crowded than the ferratas. Maybe the descent back to the parking lot could be better marked; we saw a German family with small children who by mistake used the C ferrata for descent and had big trouble with it.
Wooden walkway at the start of one of the via ferratas1
Section before the chimney2
Section closest to the summit of Kanzianiberg3
Some views of the surroundings of Beljak4
After snack back to the rocks5
Enjoyment in the midst of the vertical wall6
We climb also between the two small towers7
Through the narrow chute8
And across the bridge9
For the end we ascend the shorter C/D via ferrata10

The natural adrenaline park KANZIANIBERG or Škocjan has numerous well-equipped sports ferratas and equipped sports routes attract adrenaline lovers from near and far. And it is really worth visiting, suitable for BEGINNERS as well as FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN, and also more experienced ferratists.
