One question about the western gully on Viševnik. I can't find much reports from hikers that they go up it. Is there maybe an unwritten rule to leave it for ski tourers, or? Are there any other peculiarities there? I know it slides down. But when sliding, are there any other reservations so it's not such a popular route?

I'll be very approximate because it's at least a quarter century ago that I was there. Multiple times. The ascent we or we two or we always did IN THIS GULLY (without bypasses), it's an easier alpinistic ascent if enough snow and gully nicely filled. Descent usually western, sometimes normal too if we didn't feel like walking from Konjščica back to Rudno. I remember western was trodden. Of course depending, but they walked. For now I know we three went up it because conditions in SW gully didn't suit. You go easy when snow reworked, one axe enough, probably break fresh trail.

Conditions 10.1.2026 Not much snow on normal route. Last fallen snow in upper part completely loose to rocks or locally icy base. Microspikes and poles basically suffice in current conditions, just careful on descent to icy section up on ridge.

This time I won't write about "surprisingly good skiing", because I'd be lying. But probably it would be like that, if I wasn't in a hurry for work and waited up there an hour or 2 Regarding avalanches it looked quite safe, but in the afternoon it can already change, when it gets very crusty. Especially since warm sunny days are forecasted. https://trobec.blogspot.com/2026/02/turni-visevnik-2422026.html

Hi! Does anyone have any fresh information on the conditions on the path from Rudno polje to Viševnik in the last few days? I'm especially interested in how much snow is left or if that ~50m section where the path turns sideways to the right and then reaches the upper ridge is nicely trodden wide. Thanks for the help

Here is a picture from 4.4. (I came from the other side). This exact part is not visible because it's behind the corner, but I think it's already dry by now. If not, it's definitely trodden like a highway.

Today a spring ascent to Viševnik, snow starts somewhere at around 1600m altitude, which holds in the upper part, above Plesišče saddle it sinks in places among the scrub even over the knees. Summit part mostly crusty. Few hikers, mostly foreigners, some very inadequately equipped (short pants, sneakers, no extra clothing). Nice ascent in good company. Thanks to M. and T. Dobnikar for the super day.

@oldtimer 55 thanks for the description of the conditions and the photos Just checking if that traverse to the right that takes you to the upper ridge (a bit further right from picture #4) is already completely dry or if there's still snow on that 30m section? (some folks at home don't like going in the snow there, so I'm checking )

In the entire upper part there are some sections on the path (five to ten meters where there is snow), but it clears it very quickly. If it stays this warm and there are no new snowfalls, next week it will only be wet.
