On Monday my son and I plan a short trip to Viševnik or Debela peč, which tour do you recommend?

The path to Viševnik is a bit steeper than to Debela peč, but it is longer towards Debela peči.

Hard to say, Debela peč is nice because there's a hut at Lipanca in between, on the way back from the top you can climb to Brda for example. And to Lipanca there's shade, forest. Well, the heat should ease. It's a bit more walking, depending where you park the car.
Viševnik is nice in its own way, and quite a short tour too. If you and your son are "fit", net up/down walking can be less than 3h total. Breaks and enjoyment not included 
Or around 3h.
I'd go to Debela peč, it's closer to my heart

Viševnik has a super view of Triglav and the surroundings if it's not in the clouds like it was for me
