Visoki vrh and Mojstrovica

Today I set off with my dog to Visoki vrh above the village of Belca. Nice trip but unfortunately it didn't go according to plan, as I didn't reach the goal due to an obstacle called: bull (on pasture). Of course he was too angry at my dog, so we carefully turned around, visited Mojstrovica and nicely back down. I stopped at the forestry hut, chatted with the forester and another mountain visitor, then via shortcuts to the barrier. I'll return in autumn when they take the bull to the valley..
I recommend visiting these wonderful pastures!

Yesterday I ascended from the forest road at Belca, via Šteng and Vretov vrh to Visoki vrh. I extended the trip to Mojstrovica and then descended via the pasture areas of planina Bavha (Bašinov breg). I reached the road from Belca to Sedliče at the last right serpentine (viewed from the bottom up). Followed by a long walk to the valley where I had the car parked.
The path via Šteng and then Vretov vrh is very demanding orientation-wise, and in some places especially due to the great wetness of the terrain also dangerous for slipping. The orientationally easier path through the valley Za Vršičem was discouraged by a local. You have to cross a steep gully, and crossing it when wet is deadly dangerous.
Otherwise the path is mostly dry, some snow only between Visoki vrh and Mojstrovica.

Best regards, Tadej

Maybe a bit older, but I think the conditions haven't changed much, they'll be even nicer (less gray) by the end of the week...
Nice forecast lured us with my wife this time (29.10.2011) into this solitary and beautiful mountain world. Friendly local woman warns us still in Srednji vrh: "Aren't you afraid of bears at all?!"
Still we take the path towards Vavčarjeva homestead and further along the initial forest track nicely a bit by feel we hit Vavčarjev Vršič. All out of breath from almost racing ahead of the rising fog we calmly await the sunrise, then nicely along the ridge over smaller peaks following the quite visible track northwards. We bypass only Rez and Vršič, return to the ridge for a few moments, then soon turn right past "old intakes" and gently descend to planina Bašca. Here at the new (1998) hut we sign the logbook, then climb up the meadow to the ridge between Visoki Kurji vrh and Mojstrovica. We visit and enjoy both, then descent back to planina Bašca, from there down along a nicely visible tracklet towards the Hladnik stream. But we don't reach the stream bed itself, as the forest track "intercepts" us again, bringing us nicely back to Vavčarjeva farm. An extremely nice loop is thus closed. Only crossing Hladnik and a short climb to Srednji vrh remains.
Full praise to Irena Mušič and Vladimir Habjan for the very useful and vivid guidebook, without which I would surely have "struggled" a bit more this time. Highly recommend! The guidebook and the tour! Snow practically poses no obstacle, peace is guaranteed. We met no one indeed. Well, just one squirrel, three chamois, four ravens and countless deer tracks... No bear though. mrk pogledvelik nasmeh

Today we set off to "explore" this – according to Habjan – "island of untouched wilderness". nasmeh We started the path at the barrier in the Belca valley, then almost an hour mostly on the road to the Mikulovica pasture. Here we got tired of the road and above the pasture headed west on a well-trodden path that nicely led us and brought us to Visoki vrh. We continued to Mojstrovica and descended to the road. Since we didn't feel like the road all the way down again, we decided to traverse under Tišlerica to the Brdca pasture (Na planji). Here we hit the road again and the starting point isn't far.
In the package with all the beauty, solitude and wonderful views we also got something we didn't quite expect – primarily occasional substantial amounts of snow on the path that sinks deeply (we thought we were going on a completely dry spring hike zadrega) and a bit of "getting lost" mežikanje on the last traverse to Brdca pasture. Due to snow and really a large amount of fallen trees we lost the path several times and there was no choice but "through thicket and scrub" off-path to the next "meeting" with the path….and several times we didn't know if it was the right one or just chamois. Well, as the day was turning faster into evening, we were glad when we suddenly "spotted" a nice hunting path that brought us to the pasture and to the road… it was a wonderful solitary ramble…nasmeh

I somewhat awkwardly set about finding the path to Mojstrovica and approached it via the steep western slopes. But because of that I found a hidden natural window to which a hunter's trail led me... Very nice. http://stezeinsledi.blogspot.com/

Today 11.2. towards Mojstrovica along the road from Belca. Up to the hunting hut snow up to 30 cm. Then the amount doubles quickly, progress speed decreases accordingly. Unfortunately didn't reach Mojstrovica, only to the end of the road. Nothing for it, nice day.

In the last part of the path where it gets quite steep there's surely at least twice as much snow as at road end. I think decision for summit another time... spot on.
Photos really excellent.
