A bit more about the second visit to the border ridge between Italy and Slovenia, this time from Resia, in pictures and comments on the link below.

Jovan, did you peek ahead on that high Resian one? Is there still much snow or can you already go over it? Because I can hardly wait, last year it slipped a bit from my program. And thanksnasmeh

Sometimes it happens that a tour tempts you that someone else just did a bit before. GITA posted her ascent to Velika Baba and Skutnik from always beautiful Rezija on her blog. And since she describes it so invitingly to read and since we hadn't been to these two summits yet, the decision was very easy. Simply couldn't postpone anymorenasmeh.

And so it happened that this was the third trip to Rezija in less than a year. So there must be something to this Rezija that one heads there so often, for which you have to reckon with three hours drive one way. But it's not a drive that drags and bores you, quite the opposite, you drive past mountains whose summits you've already climbed, or they're just on the list of future tours, and you admire both.

First we climbed to the bivouac under the sharpened Mulec, then turned left towards the saddle Med Baban, where we started looking for marks to the right. These are rarer at first, then more frequent and more cairns too. At the top we marveled at the boiling fog, which however released the summits of higher mountains from its embrace.

On the way back we went also towards Skutnik, which at first glance doesn't look very close, but appearances deceive, incredibly quickly you stand on its summit and admire the ridge that winds further towards the Karnica saddle. You have to do this detour, otherwise you'd miss quite a few nice views that are especially picturesque at this time.
So we returned to Planina Kot via another path and thus did a full circular tour. Planina Kot is also nice, tidy, spacious, panoramic, much better than I imagined.

Really nice tour!

I could almost say hardly anyone goes to this Baba from Žaga. Especially now with tall grass the path is very poorly visible or not at all. Markings faded, every now and then one. We went yesterday from Žaga on the visible path. On the way viewed Boka waterfall from top of path and continued to planina Baban. Then into tall grass. Had path map with us. Met two hikers returning. Further found path, passages, some cairn helped and in nice warm weather both reached Baba first time. Behind us three more hikers came. But from Učje over Skutnik. And returned same path. Nice at top. Panoramic. We descended past bivouac to Skutnik and on known path where last time went past Sopot waterfall to Žaga. Such tour needs good fitness. Because full day walking. And elevation accumulates. 2100m of it. Km only 19. Day 23.6.2020.
The Soča waters were roaring.1
Log Čezsoški and the Polovnika ridge2
Yes, today visibility was good.3
We are already in the forest.4
where one admires the mighty Boka waterfall. From the summit it looks different.5

We walked through the forest to the Baban alpine pasture.7
alpine pasture with high grasses and nettles.8
we continue along the path as shown on the map.9
Above all, one had to watch one's step due to ankles, uneven terrain and tall grass.10

Pleasant chat of two guys.12
So we go to look for the path ahead.13

Here we go.15

All in rocks and rare cairns are helpful.17
The day is really flying.18
Scenic.19
Here we go over scree.20
Almost under the summit. Many hours of walking behind us.21
And both first time on Baba.22
Pleasantly warm.23
If I'm not mistaken it's the summit Na Žlebeh, where we saw markers to it on descent, if someone walks.24
Three more hikers came after us.25
Beer fits. Even if not from a bottle.26
We stay a bit longer.27
All together on the top, midweek, when you think you won't meet anyone.28
Descent past the bivouac.29

We're here for the first time.31
Well visible path to Skutnik.32
Which is known to us.33

Darinka, very nice and interesting tour. Tour for heart and soul. What about the overgrown and poorly trodden path? Weren't you afraid in shorts? This is a quite known area for some viper? zadrega

As for snakes, I noticed only a blindworm in the grass. Otherwise, I knew I must watch for snakes; Marjan warned me several times. But none. But nettles stung me good. And ticks were not lacking, but still fewer than on Polovnik ridge.

Friday 3.10. Velika Baba 2161m. It was a good start. To where it was worth going, we had to search for the path. We started in Gozdec. In the cold morning. Past the former burned hut and GRS bivouac. Further to Velika Baba, where we were headed, but we hadn't gone there yet. Quite some cairns were set. We went under Big Babanski skedenj and at the saddle found the entry to the gully. Further more by feel, as we had to traverse. Not to lose too much height. We also lost some time searching. Because where we thought it would be possible to go, there was no passage. We found it a bit lower. Then over rocks to the path, where we went to the summit. Wind blew the whole way. At the top, we found a more sheltered spot. And stayed some time in the clear. The sky was cloudless. The plan to go to Babanski skedenj as well we abandoned. Too much time the pathless part took us, where we searched for passages. Descent on the known path past planina Baban. There in tall grasses quite carefully, because of holes. From the planina onwards, 200 meters of ascent on a nice pathlet awaited us. Where it joins the one that goes to Babanski Skedenj. We went this path section for the first time. It goes to Kopo, which we visited last year, but via another path. Still in daylight, we finished our eleven-hour tour with all stops and path searching. As there aren't many there.
