I couldn't find a thread about conditions on Vrtača Pasture, so I'm opening a new one.

Finally winter conditions have returned and the day had to be made use of. Starting from the parking lot at the end of Mojstrana, still in the dark.
This path is really quite strenuous, you don't even have time to warm up, because as soon as you step off the road, the path goes straight up and knee grinding begins nasmeh

anyway, the path was good, mud still frozen so it went fast. More notable snow started around 1200 m.a.s.l. Snow amount increases quickly due to the steep path and gaining height.
I put on snowshoes just after the pasture fence and broke trail to the shepherd's hut. After a break I continued, for a while still on the marked path to Sleme, then straight up to the edge with nice view of Belca and Austria. Snow wasn't settled, so in places (with snowshoes) it sank even over knees, but still a pleasure to tread on untouched snow nasmeh

Tomorrow more snow forecasted, so Sunday might be similar to today, perfect for snowshoeing.

P.S.: No more winter room in the shepherd's hut (as described in Vrtača Pasture description). Now only shelter is right behind the wooden door, in small space, on the bench.

After a long time today I went to check these parts again, path is dry, some fallen trees, higher some snow patches on path, from fence at alpine start still lots of snow nasmeh

back then detour to Grančišče and north path down to Mojstrana. Lp

Afternoon hop after shift to Vrtaška planina, path ok, but feel at afternoon temps even steeper than usual nasmeh

Yesterday nice trip to this Vrtaška Planina, the uphill path even steeper than it used to be nasmeh

. We were surprised that quite a few hikers chose this route, seems the planina and Sleme have become quite popular. Otherwise there probably wouldn't be a pay station at the parking below.

But the main goal of the trip wasn't the planina itself, but the return path which we chose towards Peričnik. Path beautiful and unmarked, currently lots of caution needed as even larch needles can slip (tested), later lots of leaves on the path which covered it well. When groping along the left bank of Peričnik, we ran into quite a few fallen trees and ended up on the edge above cliffs, where real great caution is needed. Moment later we spotted galleries that hide a little path below them too. We reached the road just before Mojstrana, but figured these paths around Peričnik aren't too clear to us and need to check them again nasmeh

Vrtaška Planina - Peričnik..

Steep up, steep down. Just that on descent there are goat paths, and even those covered by low grass. Dangerous for slipping. Didn't descend at Peričnik, but continued towards Mojstrana. Then another 5 km on road to village. Don't recommend hunting paths, not for everyone. Visit to Vrtaška Planina is experience of its own. Host Stane is friendly and likes to chat. nasmeh
