What kind of headgear do you use?

Here in Kras the bora has announced itself again after a long time, so let's chat about headgear. What headgear do you use during hiking, alpinism... winter and summer? Any tricks and tips? All kinds of hats, scarves, headbands, masks, balaclavas, so forget helmets etc. I often use a boonie hat, which works great in dense bushes and trees so a branch doesn't poke your eye... I also use a winter hat that covers ears and with elastic under chin. I dry it by turning it inside out when wet inside and wear it reversed until the wet part dries. And I scare witches too... If no hat is handy, I just wrap a short-sleeved t-shirt around my head. I'm considering buying a desert hat, i.e. hat with brim in front and fabric piece on neck. In gear also mask for mouth, cheeks and chin and balaclava, ear headband I rarely use. Baseball cap, i.e. cap with front brim performs poorly in summer - sunburns... Most often I carry a couple of pieces of headgear with me.

For summer, a leather hat with a wide brim and some extra holes for ventilation is great. No sunburns for sure. It works in dense bushes as well as in rain. For winter, a balaclava on the head; if colder, a hood over it. In strong wind and severe cold, I put a ski helmet on my head (of course I have it with me in winter), and pull the hood over it. Mandatory gear is also a face mask (facial mask).

Oh these headgears. I never liked them and consequently walked without them even in the worst conditions. Then about twenty years ago I parked in Planica, Rateče officially -22°C and I headed towards Kotov. Without headgear. In Tamar it felt like my head was cooling. OK, I think, I'll put something on but what since I have nothing suitable with me. Only a summer scarf, which I tie around my ears. The cold was insane And higher up my dogs freeze off from the cold and even higher, I barely reach the fork frostbite-saddle and turn back there. Descent fine. Tea in Planica... the waitress grins like baked what did you do to your ears she asks... When I found the mirror (in the car) almost had a stroke... ears stuck out like if I had flung open the doors of a double wardrobe And it took and took until everything healed without cutting, some black spots from frostbites remained and since then... Gloves, thick hat, thin hat (for under the helmet), fleece band over ears and scarf are always with me everywhere. Nothing surprises me anymore But still I most most most prefer bareheaded (you get haircuts less often, it works )

If there was nothing else, pants went on the head too. Really.

I mostly have a light running cap with a visor, summer and winter. If colder, a bit thicker cap with a visor, from cotton. Otherwise one proper hat always in the backpack, but I rarely use it. If it's blowing hard, the hood from the windbreaker is enough. Ears don't worry me, no frostbite yet, I tolerate cold much better than heat. And this season there hasn't been any real cold yet anyway.

In summer buff so sweat doesn't run into eyes, in winter either buff or windstopper hat

I use scarf, usually around neck all the time (if not too hot), just pull it higher if cold. Backpack usually has headband and cotton hat too, but rarely use, as hood on jacket protects well in severe cold.

I have regular hat and buff around neck. I pull it over head at more cold or wind. Sometimes I have used cycling subcap that nicely covers ears and neck.

Mostly buff, if snow or rain Australian shepherds' hat. Also fleece hat if strong wind.
