Hello.
I'm interested when it would be most optimal to start the Slovenian Mountain Trail this year?
General recommendations are in August. For me it's important to know approximately when to start due to vacation planning.

Start tomorrow and every weekend do a tour or two, starting coastal where all snow-free. In between jump to Pohorje and inland hills, then higher also snow-free and start easy tours like lower Bohinj hills ... etc. Western Julians and Kočne, Rinka in KSA leave for end or next year when you gather some mileage. With each ascent easier and with each steeper ascent more confidence, but careful and self-belay kit for walls. Vacation hmm? When hottest below, most fun up! Triglav end July not yet crowded much, later "to die". So much from own experience. lp  Matjaž

You don't have many options, July or August, maybe first half of September, which would be most ideal. In July there'll be snow on the trail in places; if it's no problem for you, you can go then too, easier to overnight in huts. August usually has most visitors in mountains and consequently accommodation issues. But you need to consider weather too, since summers are getting hotter and heat isn't the best friend, so I'm more for second half of August and first half of September, when it's cooler and easier to tackle slopes. You probably know that already, otherwise you wouldn't have decided for this challenge.

But you can divide this trail into a couple years. Say twenty, or more.
