Hi. Tomorrow I plan to go to the mountain, so regarding the conditions, what do experienced hikers recommend? Are snowshoes necessary in these conditions or can it go without? I don't have much winter experience, fitness-wise I'm prepared and [my] wishes [are] big. Thanks in advance for the info. Lp Matjaž

I suggest you take all gear for winter conditions and first head to the mid-mountains to test it and gather your own experience. Slowly, (or soon) you'll figure out where, when and what you need and what not. Snowshoes e.g. in deep snow, crampons in steep, icy.. Many easy paths in mid-mountains can be walked in almost the same way (especially if trodden), as in the rest of the year, still it's right to have enough winter gear in (on) the backpack. Where? E.g... Kriška gora, Tolsti vrh, Struška, Rožca, various pastures - Kofce, Roblek etc., Pokljuka.

I have quite some experience with summer ascents, but I'd really like to go to the mountains in winter for the first time. I'm wondering if there are any organized ascents; it would be great if someone with experience [joins]. Also interested in some course of this type. Thanks

I recommend attending some course, then with crampons and ice axe to the terrain and practice; helpful are also various "YouTube videos" from the army. I've met most hikers just when the 1st level was announced; I also think at 2nd and 3rd level (4th [level with] heavy snow) I wouldn't go to high mountains at all. Turski žleb on the weekend is then "crowded", on the way to Kredarica a long track is visible, Stol. Don't recommend winter Triglav without experience (3x last winter, 2 dry). Krn is also quite visited when snow conditions OK. Vrtača via Y gully, Begunjščica many go only there.... I don't like to promise that we can arrange, because even if clear weather it tells me nothing, snow is what matters in winter tours. Condition is knowing summer-dry terrain, I know that quite well and it will help me this and next winters in planning winter tours. No one to get who shares experience for free, advises and takes someone along. As I said, I'm up for action if snow conditions really good and I go only on invitation. But I believe someone will start with criticism again, as always in FB group.

Krivec and Urbmic, PD Kamnik every year in December organizes a 2-day course (lecture + tour) for both easy and hard winter tours. I advise you to attend it.
